It’s a huge day of racing on Saturday with a ton of feature races for racing enthusiasts to sink their teeth into. However, none are bigger than the richest race on turf, The Everest! That race comes up in Race 7 at Randwick at 4:15pm (AEDT), and we have a full runner-by-runner preview and tips below!
2024 The Tab Everest Preview & Tips
(1) I wish I Win $6.00/$2.20: 6YO Gelding who has been terrific in defeat in both runs this prep and hasn’t had the best of luck with draws. Maps as though he will roll forward, where if the track is playing a leader bias throughout sets him up nicely. Goes well third up and is a main danger.
(2) Giga Kick $14.00/$3.60: 5YO who hasn’t returned as well as most would’ve hoped, but the stable are still bullish on him and think he is ready to tackle this now third up. Unbeaten third up and does have terrific 1200m form with an Everest win in 2022. Draws a better gate today and showed some slick late sectionals last start. Close enough, good enough.
(3) Private Eye $31.00/$6.70: 7YO who tends to get looked past. She was enormous in this race last year where she sat 3 wide and still finished third. Can only expect improvement now this prep being third up and out to 1200m. If they are running on he is a sniff at big odds.
(4) Bella Nipotina $9.00/$2.80: 7YO who has been superb all prep and again deserves another chance. Probably wins last start with some better luck or if Willo pushed the button a fraction earlier. Had Giga Kick well beaten. Draws a sticky gate today, but I am happy if she settles at the back end as there appears to be a bit of speed on paper which should aid the back markers if they go too hard in front. My top pick at odds.
(5) I Am Me $14.00/$3.60: 6YO Mare looking for the hattrick today and has been rather impressive when returning this time out. 4 wins from 5 at the track and 4 wins over 1200m. Gets the perfect draw to allow her to ping to the front and dictate. Plenty of talent in this race though, so will need her best.
(6) Stefi Magnetica $14.00/$3.70: 4YO Mare who won the Stradbroke at the end of last prep beating Bella Nipotina, but weight played a factor there. Returned nicely in the shorts and can only be expected to improve second up. Prefer her over further.
(7) Sunshine In Paris $10.00/$3.00: 5YO who returned nicely with some slick times to score at Group 2 Level beating Joliestar. Boasts a nice record over this distance and maps as though she will settle at the rear. Will need some luck, but capable.
(8) Joliestar $6.00/$2.20: 4YO up and coming superstar who has proven she is going to be one to watch in the future. This is her toughest test yet, but is unbeaten over this track/trip and won 3 from 4 over 1200m. Bounce back here?
(9) Growing Empire $7.50/$2.40: 3YO Colt who has already reached super star status with 4 wins and 2 seconds. Probably should’ve won last start, but pipped on the line. (Questionable riding by Williams) He is rock hard fit now, but will be taking on top horses here. Draws well and K-Mac gets into the saddle who knows how to win an Everest.
(10) Traffic Warden $7.50/$2.50: 3YO colt who was very impressive first up over this trip scoring down the outside. Jumped to 1400m second up in the golden rose and only finished behind BROADSIDING who is another talented type. Drops back to 1200m now and looks a good chance, tougher here though.
(11) Storm Boy $13.00/$3.60: 3YO colt who can have some bad barrier manners which can be costly. Drops back to 1200m where he does his best work and will be rock hard fit now fourth up. Draws a nice gate and if he jumps he will likely be out in front setting the pace. Chance.
(12) Lady Of Camelot $51.00/$10.00: 3yo Filly who has been far from her best, but is third up today where she is unbeaten from one attempt and goes well over 1200m. Probably too tough for her here though.
(13) Overpass $61.00/$11.50: Emergency for this race and is a $5 chance in an earlier affair. Yet to win at this track from 9 attempts, but does go well fresh and loves this trip. If he gets in he could play a role.
(14) Think About It $67.00/$12.20: 6YO who won this race last year and can be forgiven off his first up run where he decided to drop back to last which didn’t allow him to ever get into the race. At this price if he happens to sneak in id be having a penny as he won it last year.
(15) Southport Tycoon $61.00/$11.70: Enormous win last start knocking over Growing Empire at the valley. That was probably Grand Final day though. Unlikely to run here.
(16) Mazu $71.00/$13.50: 6YO who has had two cracks at the Everest previously and looks to be in good form this prep, but unlikely to run and would like to see some rain if he were to run.
