AFL Daily Fantasy Tips 2024: Round 24 Saturday

August 24th 2024, 1:31am, By: Jesse Penfold

AFL Fantasy Tips

The final Super Saturday for the 2024 AFL Premiership Season is upon us, which means this will be the last daily fantasy slate with five games for the year. Things get underway with Hawthorn and North Melbourne facing off down in Tasmania as the Hawks will look to improve their position in the eight heading into finals. We also get what will likely be an absolute bloodbath between Geelong and West Coast down at GMHBA Stadium, and quite likely the choice for game stack of the day. Through the mid-afternoon it is another dead rubber between Richmond and Gold Coast at the MCG. Then come night time Brisbane will host Essendon at the Gabba as they look to hold onto 5th spot and Sydney will face Adelaide at the SCG.

Draftstars continue to offer massive prize pools with the Saturday main contest worth $50,000 along with their usual variety of alternate contests:

  • AFL $50,000+ Saturday
  • AFL $5,000+ Saturday High Roller ($150 Entry)
  • AFL $3,000+ Saturday Mini ($2 Entry)

The AFL Star contest is back for 2024 and Draftstars are offering the biggest prize pool in Australian DFS history with a $1 million guaranteed final with $250,000 top prize! There are qualifiers and satellites running for every AFL match, while there will also be a sprinkling of qualifiers across other sports such as NRL and NBA.

Weather

Launceston – 15 degrees and rain

Melbourne/Geelong – 21 and possibly morning shower

Sydney – 26 and morning shower

Brisbane – 26 and sunny

A decent chance for a solid downpour in Launceston during the game so keep an eye on that one with that game being the first the for the day. No other matches should be impacted by weather on this slate.

Where to Attack?

The options are as plain as day on this slate. Starting things off with the Geelong game stack with them matching up against West Coast at home in what couldn’t be a more meaningless game for the Eagles and their selections have reflected that. Geelong are over 10 goal favourites and in all honesty, it would not surprise anyone if this was over 100 points. The Eagles have given up the most points in the league to inside midfielders over the last 10 games and the most points in the league to key forwards over that same period.

The second biggest line of the day is Hawthorn as 55 point favourites over North Melbourne. This game is less likely of a stack for fantasy than the Geelong game simply because North have been quite solid and almost stingy for a team sitting second bottom on the ladder.

Game Script – Geelong midfielders and key forwards, Richmond backs

VALUE PLAYS

Ben Hobbs ($7,630) should get a full game this week and given it is the last game of the season, will be a big chance to see more time in his natural role as a midfielder. He has shown us 99 point upside this year and similar last year when given the right opportunity. There are several other lower priced players around to switch if Hobbs ends up the sub, and several others around the minimum who are also worth considering but will bring a sub risk on this last Saturday of the regular season.

Rhys Stanley ($9,470) has effectively resumed his role as the number one ruck for Geelong as their usual ruck ring-a-rosie has appeared to settled with old faithful heading into finals. Standley has posted two scores of 85+ from his last three games and has attended at least 70+ % of the centre bounces for Geelong over this period. He brings 100+ point upside and will draw the best matchup in the league this season against West Coast.

MID PRICED PLAYS

Jayden Short ($12,780) has settled back to his past role as the Tigers designated kicker taking 8 of the kick-ins last week. That suits this final game of the year with Gold Coast giving up the most points in the league to both designated kickers and attacking half backs over the last 10 games. This will be a total dead rubber in the open spaces of the MCG and I expect Short will take full advantage of such a contest. Despite an average season, he has put out back to back 90 point scores and has upside to go far higher than 100 in a matchup like this.

Gryan Myers ($12,710) hot start to the season slowed significantly in the second half of the year, but as we have seen he comfortably has 110+ point upside and this game at home is the type of matchup where it comes out. Stacking up the Geelong forwards on this slate is the most obvious play you will find all season.

PREMIUM PLAYS

Jeremy Cameron ($13,440) the question is… Can you have too many Geelong forwards and the answer is no! Squeeze them in at every position you are allowed because this is by far the matchup of the day and the Eagles have stripped down their team, including their back line to make it even easier for the Cats forwards. Cameron brings 130+ upside and higher in this matchup.

Brisbane premiums… if you are looking to get off the Geelong stack, the sneaky play is to load up on the Lions playing the Bombers up at the Gabba. Essendon have been one of the leakiest teams over the last 10 games of the season and with nothing to play for I could see the Lions putting up some massive fantasy scores. The likes of Josh Dunkley ($15,450), Lachie Neale ($15,340) and Dayne Zorko ($15,270) are all relatively well priced under the $16k mark.
