Sandown Racing Tips: Wednesday July 24th 2024

July 23rd 2024, 4:13pm, By: Adam Page

Sandown Racing Tips

Victorian racing on Wednesday heads to Sandown Hillside, where eight races have been set down. The track as of Tuesday morning is a Heavy 8 and I don't suspect the track will get much better with cold weather on the cards.

Adam Page bring you his best bets for Sandown below, and be sure to head over to our Racing Tips page, for more free tips.

Race 2: Become An MRC Member Handicap 1400m - 1.00pm AEST

*SCRATCHED* It is hard to get away from (7) Our Queen. Michael Moroney trained filly that was such a sharp debut winner at Bendigo, sitting on speed throughout and was trucking before being clicked up and away she went for a dominant win. Not sure what she beat at the time but two winners have come out of the race already, she'll land near the front and given the arrogance of the win, 1300m to 1400m looks ideal. The one to beat, and clearly.

(6) Manhattan View is one of those horses to have come out and won from the Bendigo race mentioned above. That win came last Wednesday here on the Lakeside track, leading throughout and she was quite dominant from the front, winning well. I think she'll lead, Our Queen sits outside and that pair dominate the race. She runs well, but I don't think she has the quality of Our Queen. That said, she's clearly the #2 seed.

Very interesting runner is (1) Mislead, who comes through strong Saturday races where for the most part, she has been far from disgraced, the latest over the mile at Flemington in the Leilani Final when on speed and stuck on well enough in defeat behind Cindy Falls. Back to her own age/sex, she has to carry the weight but she has class.

(7) Our Queen

Race 5: Thoroughbred Club Of Australia Handicap 1000m - 2.45pm AEST

It's hard to get away from (6) Mighty. Moody/Coleman trained mare that was a dominant winner first up at this trip. She got into a decent spot just off the speed before angling into clear air and she went through her gears like a nice horse to win and win well. Good improvement to come, maps perfect again and looks extremely hard to beat.

(5) Shaime has won two races, both at 1200m, but I do think back to 1000m is perfect for her. She has been kept on ice since a first up win at Mornington on June 10 when leading throughout and though out of tickets late, she had enough in hand to score. Back to 1000m, she presses forward and will give a good sight.

(4) I Choose You ran third to Mighty in the race mentioned above. She was near the speed throughout and tried hard but just lacked the change up speed to go with Mighty late in the piece, finishing third. Not sure she turns the tables but a very consistent mare and should be around the mark.

(6) Mighty

$2.80 (5 Units)

Race 7: Ive > Handicap 1300m - 3.55pm AEST

I am really keen each way on (12) Struck Gold. Team Freedman trained former Kiwi who swims and I think will get conditions to suit once again. Totally forgiving of his run at Bendigo last time. I thought he was given a sore back by Ethan Brown, sitting wide no cover throughout and just couldn't reel in the leader/winner. Lands on speed, gets a much better run in transit, he swims...great each way gamble.

(1) Bews is the best horse in the race but is he getting towards last chance territory from a punters perspective? He has been quite costly this time in, being hard in the market on a number of occasions, the latest when narrowly beaten at Morphettville. He is on the short side and drawn wide, but is the class factor.

(5) Hazel Baby can run a much-improved race for Ciaron Maher. This mare resumed at Lakeside where she just got too far out of her ground and while she was never a winning threat, she found the line and was quite good in defeat. Gets a big jockey upgrade and dangerous if she can settle closer.

(12) Struck Gold E/W

$8.20/$2.75 (1U/4U)
