2024 AFL Round 19 Preview & Betting Tips
St Kilda vs West Coast
Saturday 1:45pm AEST, July 20th, Marvel Stadium
Fans of St Kilda endured further pain last weekend when their club were easily accounted for by the similarly ranked Crows. In a battle of 14th vs 15th, the Saints were outmatched in all key metrics and went down cheaply by 32 points at Adelaide Oval (39-71).
It was a disappointing result for the Saints especially due to the fact it came immediately after they defeated the top-of-the-ladder Swans at Marvel the week prior. The Saints have now lost three of their past four games and are all but certain to miss finals footy in 2024.
Adding salt to their wounds, young gun Mattaes Phillipou has been ruled out for 3-4 weeks with a hip injury. The second-year midfielder had produced the two best games of his career over the past fortnight, so and injury at this stage would be particularly frustrating. In positive news, Brad Hill returns to the side just days after inking a new three-year deal to remain at Moorabbin.
A new chapter began for West Coast last weekend, with interim head coach Jarrad Schofield occupying the hot seat for the first time since the club parted ways with premiership coach, Adam Simpson.
Unfortunately, the Eagles couldn’t begin their new chapter with a win as they went down by 13 points against the Lions (93-106). That loss was their seventh in a row and 14th in total for the season to go along with just three wins.
In lineup news for the Eagles, they’ve been forced to make four changes after last weekend’s defeat and unfortunately, there are some massive names listed in the outs. Star trio Jake Waterman, Elliot Yeo, and Liam Duggan will all miss with injury, and none of the ins come close to replacing their talent.
Match Prediction: This is a tough spot for the Eagles. The new coach factor usually wears off after the first game, and they’ve struggled mightily on the road both this year and for the best part of half a decade. On top of that, they’re missing key players in Yeo, Duggan, Waterman, McGovern, and first-choice ruckman Flynn. And despite the Saints poor form in 2024, I think this one could get nasty.

St Kila to Win – Pretty straightforward. The Saints should be winning this.
Hunter Clark 20+ Disposals – No Windhager or Phillipou should provide Clark with all the midfield time he can handle. He looks to be great odds in the disposal markets.
Oscar Allen 2+ Goals – Had a tough assignment against Harris Andrews last weekend but should get a favourable matchup here.
