It looks to be a wide-open WTA Wimbledon draw, with no player shorter than $4.50 in the outright markets. In what should be a fascinating fortnight of tennis, Ace is here to look at the quarters of each draw in his search for value in the outright markets that are available.
Women’s Wimbledon 2024 Preview & Betting Tips
Quarter 1
World number 1 Iga Swiatek is always going to be one to watch, however it is quite clear across the course of her career that the grass surface at Wimbledon gives her more trouble than any other. In recent years, with Wimbledon a bit of an afterthought after dominant clay seasons, it has been hard to find her appealing here. Personally, I’d like to see her take the court and see how she is handling the conditions before casting judgement, and we will get a very good idea about it with Sofia Kenin across the net to kick off the tournament.
I find this section intriguing. Generally, the next two names I would be drawn to here are Marketa Vondrousova and Danielle Collins. Vondrousova, the defending champion, comes in under an injury cloud, and Collins is coming into the tournament having taken a break due to so much tennis in the first half of the season. As a result, it may be worth looking at others in this section at the longer odds. Names such as Beatriz Haddad Maia, Jelena Ostapenko, and Katerina Siniakova are where I would be looking. With a tricky first round match for Ostapenko and Siniakova quite close to Swiatek in the draw, Haddad Maia is worth considering.
Quarter 2
Assuming she is over her illness, the first name I am drawn to in this section is Elena Rybakina. Her draw looks to be solid, with her first major test likely Leylah Fernandez in round 3. Again, my preference would be to see how she look on court before casting judgement, so pre-tournament I may look at some other options in the quarter winner markets. There are two names, both in the bottom half of the quarter and away from Rybakina, that stand out at the current odds. Ons Jabeur has been below her best this year, but has shown her ability on the grass makes her a tough match-up for almost anyone on the tour. The other is Katie Boulter, who should command strong home support and has taken her game to another level in 2024.
Quarter 3
This is a fascinating section of the draw, although it is largely interesting due to the unfortunate news that Aryna Sabalenka is less than 100% and is struggling with a shoulder injury. Again, like the other sections, it leads to the favourite in the market being a ‘watch’ and not a bet before the start of play. As a result, I will take a player at longer odds in Sabalenka’s half and take the player that looks to have the best draw in the top half. The first is Dayana Yastremska, in what is a bit of a speculative selection given the variability in her level. Yastremska put together an incredible Australian Open this year and is not scared of any opponent or occasion, and is the type of player capable of challenging Sabalenka if she is fit and they do meet in round 3. The other is Emma Raducanu. She has a tough first round match with Ekaterina Alexandrova, however her draw could really open up from there if she is successful.
Quarter 4
Another interesting little pocket of the draw, and one that presents quite a bit of opportunity. Coco Gauff commands the top line of betting for the quarter and justifiably so. I don’t see myself being against her in the first 4 rounds based on her draw, and looking at the top section of the draw, I wouldn’t at all be surprised to see her facing Madison Keys in the quarter finals. Gauff is a short price for the quarter, however given the third quarter I do prefer her price in the outright markets. I do get a little concerned regarding Keys at the pointy end of grand slams, so I prefer her quarter price.
