Where to Attack?
Sydney are the biggest favourites on the slate but they are travelling to Adelaide and the Crows have been one of the hardest teams to score against from a fantasy perspective this year despite their relatively poor performance.
The Richmond vs Hawthorn matchup looks to be the juiciest fantasy game, especially at the MCG. The Tigers have conceded the most fantasy points this season and while they are bringing back some of their more veteran players now they should still be targeted. You can pick your poison as they give up the most points in the league to forwards, third most to inside midfielders and second most to backs. The Hawks have been susceptible to backs to the typical game stack of playing the opposition defenders against your game stack is in play.
Game Script – Hawthorn forwards and midfielders, Richmond backs
VALUE PLAYS
Jack Gunston ($8,260) has been in solid form in recent weeks as the Hawks have been on a roll with three straight wins and now sitting one game out of the top eight. He has posted 74 and 84 point games from his last three and this week will draw one of the top matchups in the league for key forwards, with the Tigers being unable to shut down opposition forward lines all season.
Sam Berry ($7,530) is benefiting from the fact that Matt Crouch is not out for the season. He has been attending just under 40% of the Crows centre bounces over the last three weeks and that resulted in a 74 point game last week. There are not many obvious value plays on this slate so looking to a player at this price point who has shown ability to put up scores in the past and will be getting a role through the middle stands out as a value play and an opportunity to get a 10x return on salary. He is always a sub risk so keep an eye on the teams and be ready to switch to Brayden Cook if required.
MID PRICED PLAYS
Jayden Short ($12,900) has had an average season by his standards, but he is locked into that half back role now and looked back to his old ways last week posting 106 points. His price is in a nice range for 100+ and bigger upside and as I noted at the top, I love stacking up the Tigers backs in my Hawthorn game stack teams as they if the game goes to script there will be plenty of ball in the Richmond back line. In addition, the Hawks have conceded above average points to backs this season.
PREMIUM PLAYS
Tim English ($14,240)… this would be the lowest price you would get Tim English for in a few seasons. His form has been down with three of his last four games under 100 points, but as we have seen this year his upside is still there with a season high 141 points. Fremantle have surprisingly been getting killed by rucks this season giving up over 11 points above league average to the position over the last 10 games, which is the second highest in the league. So this looks like a great bounce back game for English.
Will Day ($14,900) has returned from injury and is flying. Three of his last four games have been 102+ fantasy points and the fourth game was still a solid 92 point outing. This week he is playing at the MCG where there will be plenty of space for him to rack up uncontested possessions, but he also draws one of the top matchups in the league for midfielders in the Tigers and makes for a great spend up option in Hawthorn game stacks.
It would be remiss to not mention the narrative play of Dustin Martin ($12,400) in his 300th game today. While he hasn’t been in the best form you could imagine him setting himself for tonight and the Tigers will be looking for him at every opportunity.
