2024 AFL Round 13 Preview & Betting Tips
Adelaide vs Richmond
Thursday 7:30pm AEST, June 6th, Adelaide Oval
If it hasn’t already been do-or-die for Adelaide it certainly is this Thursday night! Coming off a tough loss on the road against the Hawks, the Crows are now 4-1-7 and sit 14th on the ladder and 10 points outside the top eight.
The Crows, like a lot of teams, have had plenty of injuries this season and their injury list has only lengthened after Round 12. Unfortunately, one of their in-form midfielders in Matt Crouch suffered an AC joint injury last weekend and has been ruled out for the season, while key forward Tex Walker is also out this contest with a back injury.
With Crouch sidelined and skipper Jordan Dawson nursing a foot injury and likely to play forward, is it finally time for the Crows to throw some different names into their midfield mix? One would assume/hope so. Josh Rachele has been starved of supply up forward and should get his chance in the guts, while midfielder Billy Dowling has also been included for his debut this weekend after some great form at the lower level. Max Michalanney was also thrusted into the midfield in the fourth quarter against the Hawks and could enjoy some time in there again.
Meanwhile, Richmond have been absolutely decimated by injury in 2024 but will enjoy some key personnel back in Round 13. Shai Bolton, Tim Taranto, and Dion Prestia are among the inclusions, while Dustin Martin is unsurprisingly being managed to ensure his 300th game is at the MCG next weekend.
The undermanned Tigers were fantastic in the first half against the Cats on enemy soil last weekend and looked somewhat likely of causing an upset at stages; however, the class of the Cats shone through in the second half and the Tigers went onto lose their eighth straight game.
Match Prediction: Both teams are without a host of their key players, but the Tigers are clearly the more depleted outfit. With only one win under their belt and six of their last seven losses being by 5+ goals, it’s of no surprise to see the Crows priced as the overwhelming favourites.
The Crows have had a bad season by anyone’s standards, but their home form has remained solid. They’re 2-1-0 in their last three at Adelaide Oval and will be notching another win here barring a massive upset. I expect the Crows to be far too strong over the four quarters and to record a percentage-boosting win.

Chris Burgess 2+ Goals - No Tex means one of the Crows talls needs to step up here. Burgess has been in solid form with three goals last week, and should get on the end of the couple again on Thursday night.
Jake Soligo 25+ Disposals – Another great find for the Crows. Looks to be the midfielder the Crows will build around in the future and should rack them up against the depleted Tigers.
Josh Rachele 20+ Disposals – He’s the value leg in our SGM. He whinged about his midfield time midweek and with Crouch now out for the season, it’s time to let the young gun show what he can do in the guts.
SGM Odds: $6.25 at QuestBet
