A Queensland derby brings NRL Round 10 to a close, as the Gold Coast Titans look to continue their solid run of form when they play host to the North Queensland Cowboys. This promises to be a fascinating game of football, with the Cowboys underperforming over the past six weeks, whilst the Titans have been far better over the past month since losing to the Cowboys in Round 5.

Gold Coast Titans vs North Queensland Cowboys
Cbus Super Stadium, Sunday 12th May, 4:05pm (AEST)
Last Week
The Titans were in it up to their necks last weekend against the Storm, pushing the league leaders all the way to the finish line, going down 22-20 at home. The Titans, for large parts of the game, were the better team, eventually running for 115 more metres than the Storm, creating two more line-breaks, and missing 22 less tackles. AJ Brimson continued his great form at the back, running for 176 metres, whilst scoring a try, breaking the line twice, breaking 6 tackles, and setting up another try. David Fifita also continued his form, busting 15 tackles on his way to 110 metres and 27 tackles.
As for the Cowboys, they lost their fourth straight last week, going down 28-26 to the Dolphins at home. It continued a string of disappointing results for the Cowboys, who desperately need a win to turn their season around. It was a back-and-forth battle between the two Queensland teams, with neither team able to string together three straight tries Whilst the Cowboys were better statistically in most categories, it was only by slight margins. Reuben Cotter had his best game of the season, scoring a try, breaking 7 tackles, running for 102 metres and making 47 tackles.
Match Preview
The Cowboys hosted the Titans back in round 5, shooting out to a 28-4 lead after almost 60 minutes. It is at this point that both teams’ seasons seemed to turn, with the Titans scoring three tries in 8 minutes to get back on track. The Cowboys won, 35-22, as 16.5-point favourites, but this definitely seemed a turning point in both teams’ seasons. The teams met twice last year, with the Cowboys winning at home 24-12 in round 4 as 7.5-point favourites, before the Titans got their revenge in round 22 at home 22-13, with the Cowboys closing 9.5-point favourites.
The Cowboys opened 5.5-point favourites for this clash, with the Titans taking on money this week, pushing the Cowboys down to 3.5-point favourites. I make the spread 3.5, so numbers-wise I see no value in the spread, however I get the impression the Titans have a great chance at an upset this weekend. As for the total, it opened at a lofty 48.5, and has been bet up strongly to 49.5 and looks highly likely to close above 50. I agree, as I make a fair total 52.5, with two of the worst defences in the NRL set to square off. The weather could prove a factor, but I still like the over here.
So, we look towards the over, and more than likely a sprinkle on the Titans to get the W.

Titans Money Line – As above, I like the Titans to cause the upset this weekend.
K Feldt (1+ try) – The Titans have conceded 41% of their tries on the left side. Expect Feldt to score his 5th try of the season.
AJ Brimson (1+ try) – Brimson continues to be straw that stirs the drink in this Titans attack, and once again if anyone is going to help the Titans win, it’s Brimson.
