Newcastle hosts the coast this weekend amongst a neat race card. Hopefully the wet weather stays away as much as is possible with a worrying forecast for tomorrow. Keep an eye on track conditions but I’ve got confidence in the 3 selections below.

Newcastle Racing Tips: Saturday May 10th 2024
Race 1: Gosford It Hcp - 1200m (11:15 AEST)
(7) Point And Shoot is my pick to take on the 2 favourites who look vulnerable here. They both go forward and run the risk of overdoing it against each other. If that does happen, this horse will be camping behind them looking to pounce as he did late last start to almost win.
(1) Imperial Force looks like the type of horse who could explode at any minute and go on with what he’s shown so far in his short career. Capable of sitting outside the leader and still winning.
(3) Sovereign Hill gets the lead here and should be hard to run down. Query on lack of racing and large number of trials since soft debut win.
(7) Point And Shoot E/W

Race 7: Listed De Bortoli Wines Takeover Target Stakes - 1200m (14:45 AEST)
(16) Semillion should prove quite hard to beat here on wet ground given the barrier draw and the way he performed down south last start. He was forced to work early from a wide gate to lead and only just caught late when tired. Better setup here.
(10) Stefi Magnetica blitzed in her lead up trial but is drawn horrifically here 1st up. Should run well but expect better next time if she draws more favourably.
(12) Ballroom Bella is another drawn well in gate 6. Rarely runs a bad race and is primed to run just as well again and fill the minors.
(16) Semillion E/W

Race 8: The Coast - 1600m (15:20 AEST)
(9) Tavi Time is the clear selection for this race. He carried 59kg in 1 G1 last start and was phenomenal. Gets only 53kg here, a much better draw, and his form before taking on G1 company was unblemished.
(3) Iknowastar is the type of horse that can pinch the win in the lead. Not a lot of pressure on in this race so he’s the main danger to the favourite.
(1) Grebeni rounds out a fairly straightforward top 3 here. Just got way too far back to threaten last start and can improve now with that run behind him.
