EPL 2023-24: Matchday 37 Preview & Betting Tips

Fulham vs Manchester City

Craven Cottage, Saturday 11th May, 9:30pm AEST

Manchester City still have the upper hand in the title race as they head to London, just one point behind Arsenal with a game in hand on the Gunners. Pep Guardiola’s men were at their ruthless best with the title in their sight, producing a 5-1 thrashing of Wolves last week. The defending champions recorded 20 shots on goal to Wolverhampton’s two, whilst recording 58% possession. Fulham return home after a 0-0 draw against Brentford which left them with just one win from their last seven games.

Man City were led by Erling Haaland’s four goal performance against Wolves, with the Norwegian leading their title charge. Haaland has scored in each of his last four games and his haul last week nearly sures-up his second golden boot from as many seasons in the Premier League. It’s a remarkable effort to score 25 goals from 28 league appearances, in what has largely been viewed as a down season for the superstar. Haaland has five assists to go along with his 25 goals, meaning he’s averaging at least one goal contribution per game in league fixtures this season.

Manchester City have been scoring goals for fun as of late, and are unbeaten in their last 20 Premier League games. City are currently on a six game winning streak, with all six wins coming by margins of two or more goals. It’s a near identical story as it was last week - an out of form team in the bottom half of the table with nothing to gain or nothing to lose. It’s prime pickings for another big Manchester City victory, as they charge towards a historic title.

West Ham vs Luton Town

London Stadium, Sunday 12th May, 12:00am AEST

Luton Town travel to the London Stadium with Premier League status on the line when they take on West Ham. Luton are three points away from seventeenth placed Nottingham Forest and given they’re behind Forest significantly on goal difference, they must pick up at least a point from this clash. West Ham have had a horror month, with three losses and a draw from their last four games in the league, conceding five goals twice in their last three games.

Luton missed a big opportunity to claim three points last week in a game that will come back to haunt them if they are relegated. The Hatters have won only one of their last fifteen Premier League fixtures, but with West Ham having nothing to gain or lose from this game, there could be an opportunity to gain a crucial point. With David Moyes’ departure announced during the week, it’s going to be a difficult fixture for the Hammers players, with their new manager in Julen Lopetegui already announced for next season.

This fixture pits two of the worst defensive teams in the Premier League, so there’s going to be plenty of goal scoring opportunities for both sides.  and are the second worst defence in the league this season. Luton have conceded 78 goals this season, the second most in league while West Ham have conceded 70 goals - the fourth most. Both clubs have failed to record a clean sheet since January, and West Ham’s last three games have seen at least four goals scored.

Manchester United vs Arsenal

Old Trafford, Monday 13th May, 1:30am AEST

Arsenal go on the road to Old Trafford knowing a win is the only thing that can keep their title hopes alive. The Gunners take on a Manchester United side that is petering out in another mediocre season, headlined by a horror 4-0 defeat against Crystal Palace. The Red Devils have a 2-4-4 record from their last ten Premier League games, after looking like pushing for fifth spot earlier in the calendar year.

United have been woeful at the back across their last ten games, conceding 21 goals during that time span. In seven of those ten games Erik ten Hag’s side have conceded at least two goals, with the most concerning factor of this is the fact that it’s largely occurring against sides that aren’t amongst the best in the league. Only two of those ten games have been against sides in the top six on the Premier League table, with seven of them in the bottom half of the table.

Arsenal ran riot late against the Red Devils at the Emirates earlier this season, scoring twice in stoppage time to win 3-1. Despite requiring some late heroics, the Gunners dominated general play and have an in-form attacking unit that could make this fixture ugly. The Gunners have won six of their last seven league games, with five of those six wins coming by two or more goals. With Manchester United’s players looking checked out across their last few games, they will be vulnerable against an Arsenal side desperate to keep their title hopes alive.

Arsenal -1
