PGA Tour: Wells Fargo Championship Betting Tips
Quail Hollow Golf Club, Thursday 9th - Sunday 12th May
A stop in Texas last week for the CJ Cup Byron Nelson was a disappointing one for BeforeYouBet and followers as we missed on both of our top selections. We’ll look to bounce back this week as the top players in the world are all back in action for the eighth elevated event of the year, the Wells Fargo Championship.
The Field
The best of the best will be in action this week, competing for the $20 million purse on offer, with one notable exception. The No.1 player in the world, Scottie Scheffler, will miss out on the opportunity to win his fifth straight elevated event, after taking out the Masters and the RBC Heritage in back to back weeks back at the end of April.
Outside of Scheffler and Swedish star Ludvig Aberg, the rest of the top tier PGA Tour players will tee it up, headlined by the likes of Rory McIlroy, Xander Schauffele, Wyndham Clark, Patrick Cantlay, Max Homa, Colin Morikawa and Justin Thomas.
Previous winners of the Wells Fargo who will be looking to add another trophy to the case this year include Clark, Homa, McIlroy, Jason Day, Brian Harman and Rickie Fowler.
The Course
Quail Hollow Golf Club, Charlotte, North Carolina
7,538 Yards, Par 71
Course Record: 61 - Rory McIlroy (2015)
Quail Hollow, a prominent golf course on the PGA Tour, recently hosted the Presidents Cup. Designed by George Cobb and established in the 1960s, it underwent upgrades by Tom Fazio in 2017 to challenge modern players.
The renowned closing stretch, aptly named the ‘Green Mile’, stands as one of the world’s most notorious sequences of holes. Quail Hollow consistently ranks among the top five most challenging courses on the tour.
For top performers at Quail Hollow, driving accuracy and Par 5 performance are critical statistics. The demanding Par 4s necessitate capitalizing on the Par 5s for success.
Betting Tips
Max Homa ($21/Top 20 $1.80)
Homa has only made three trips to Quail Hollow in the past five years but has racked up a win and a T8 finish in that period. Has not missed a cut in his last six straight tournaments and has four top 25 finishes in that span.
Rickie Fowler (Top 20 $56/$2.50)
For a bit of value this week I like the fan favourite Rickie Fowler. Has a solid record at Quail Hollow, making six of his last seven cuts there including five finishes in the top 21. Has been solid over his last few tournaments as well with a T30 at the Masters and a T18 at RBC.
