2024 AFL Round 3 Preview & Betting Tips
Western Bulldogs vs West Coast
Sunday 1pm (AEDT), March 31st, Marvel Stadium
Prior to their win in Round 23 the West Coast Eagles have searched few and far between for a reason to sing their club song, managing to belt out the lyrics on just three occasions last year and twice the season before.
Albeit a small sample size, the bar of season 2024 remains low yet again across two games, admittedly between contending sides Port Adelaide and more recently GWS, they’ve been dealt hefty blows to the tune of 50 and 65 points respectively.
With long term injuries and retirements to key pillars forcing their hand by the way of results in the past, the Eagles are hoping to turn a leaf with much of the hope resting on the shoulders of their green chutes.
On the other side of the ledger, the Western Bulldogs ran out convincing winners in Ballarat, taking care of business against the Suns to record their first four points after an ordinary showing in Round 1 against Melbourne.
The introduction of Sam Darcy off the back of strong VFL form proved to be a smart play with the 20-year-old making his aerial prowess known to record 6 marks in amongst his 15 touches to go along with 2 majors.
It leaves the coaching staff at Whitten Oval with a selection headache who now have an abundance of talls like Jamarra Ugle-Hagan, Aaron Naughton and Rory Lobb at their disposal with limited room in the makeup of their 22.
Match Prediction: West Coast Eagles will be competitive until the ball finds itself on the outside of the contest, where their gut running will be tested against a strong Dogs outfit who should prove too strong.
The total match points line seems overs at first glance, despite the high scoring nature of Marvel it presents as a market fit to tap into. It’s too early to get a gauge on where the red, white and blue side sit which makes the half century line a deterrent.
More comfortable floating towards the unders in a contest that can be played between the arcs for the majority, with hope the Eagles back six can withstand the pressure for long enough before the dam wall is busted.
Total Points Under 179.5

Elliot Yeo 20+ Disposals – has warmed to life at the top level after an injury ridden past two or three years left him sidelined for the majority. Tracking on a path back to his best, here’s hoping this doesn’t put the mocker on him.
Jack Petrucelle 1+ Goals – slots in as sneaky value to register a major after slotting three a fortnight ago, before not troubling the scorers last week. Can be hit or miss but happy to gamble with him in this.
Tom Liberatore 30+ Disposals – is the juicy leg attached to this multi. He presents as big hope across a midfield on paper that sees him capable of reaching the target, risky but that’s where the value lies.
SGM Odds: $4.33 at BoomBet
