Caulfield hosts a huge meeting on Saturday with the All Star Mile set to take centre stage with the big race set for Race 8 at 4:15pm (AEDT). Mr Brightside returns in a race which looks to have plenty of early pace and is a $1.80 favourite. The track should be a Good 4 and Race 1 of the program gets underway at 12:15pm (AEDT).

Caulfield Racing Tips: Saturday, March 16th 2024
Race 1: Sportsbet Victoria Gold Cup - 12:15pm (AEDT)
(7) Carini was only beaten 1.75L last start when 5th and he returns to a distance which he has a good record over. He had a wide barrier on that occasion (13) and a better draw here (5) should see Lane position up nicely in the run. He is third up this time and has won third up before and this race is a littler easier than last time where Atishu got the money. Before that run he was 4th when not fully fit behind Makram in that now infamous race where Jimmystar went forward at short odds and got rolled. Lane will likely settle midfield in this one.
(6) Captain Envious got too far back last time and never got into the race and with a smaller field here should get a chance to run on late if the pace is on.
(5) Mankayan is a trusty old galloper who is running well without winning of late and he has never missed a drum at Caulfield.

Race 2: VOBIS Gold Reef - 12:45pm (AEDT)
(1) Fistfulloffury should get a gun run from the inside draw and position up just behind the leaders here. He drops in grade after being no match to Another Wil last time but is third up and will be fitter for that effort. McNeil has ridden him in 6 of his 10 starts and knows him well and a Good track suits. Last campaign he did place (3rd) in the Super Impose behind RIff Rocket and we know the Riff has gone on with it since. He is equal favourite here and should have the other equal favourite (2) Ambassadorial a couple of lengths in front of him before turning. I think the Hawkes runner is primed for this and will make up those two lengths down the straight.
(2) Ambassadorial is the likely leader and he almost won at Mornington last start after trying the same tactics. He is fitter for that and Childs is going for his third win on the Fiorente/Showcase gelding.
(7) Socks Nation may try and eyeball Ambassadorial in the run as it does like to go forward too in its races. He is very consistent and he did win at The Valley on January 27 after settling 2nd.

Race 10: Sportsbet Bel Esprit Stakes - 5:35pm (AEDT)
(7) Umgawa is one at odds here I reckon. He is pretty consistent despite not having won in 15 months and he has raced in much harder races than this. When first up at The Valley he raced his usual honest race finishing 4th but only beaten 1.45L and he should improve again second up. An Each-Way play is probably the way to go as he doesn’t win often and his Caulfield form isn’t the greatest either but I have seen him finish only 1 or 2L behind some pretty handy ones in the last 12 months.
(9) Rey Magnerio is the fav and deserves to be on the back of winning 5 times on Dry tracks which he gets again and 6 from 10 overall. He only lost by 2.4L in the Oakleigh Plate (9th) but does go up 2.5kg for this because it's an easier race.
(4) Crosshaven is similar to Umgawa. Hasn’t won in a long time but at his best would give this a good shake at big odds. He likes this distance and has won twice at Caulfield.
(7) Umgawa E/W
