PGA Tour: The PLAYERS Championship Betting Tips
TPC Sawgrass, Thursday 14th – 17th March
Scottie Scheffler pulled off a dominant fourth round performance in the Arnold Palmer on the weekend and seemed to finally put his putting woes to bed as he shot six under to claim a five-shot win in the 4th elevated event of the season.
The Field
The Field will be absolutely jam-packed once again this week as a season high single tournament purse of $25m is on the line. The World No.1 and last week’s Arnold Palmer winner, Scottie Scheffler, will also be the defending champion this week, after claiming a dominant five shot win over nearest opponent Tyrrell Hatton last season. Scheffler looked untouchable on Sunday in the Arnold Palmer and will start as red-hot favourite to go back-to-back.
Other top names in the field this week include Rory McIlroy, Patrick Cantlay, Xander Schauffele, Viktor Hovland, Collin Morikawa and Max Homa.
Past winners of The PLAYERS, who will be looking to add another trophy to the case this week include Scheffler, Justin Thomas, McIlroy, Webb Simpson, Kim Si-woo, Jason Day and Rickie Fowler.
The Course
TPC Sawgrass stands out as a renowned golf course globally, consistently hosting The Players Championship since 1982. The course is a Par 72, stretching 7,275 yards, and is recognized for its challenging nature within the PGA Tour circuit. Historically, the winning scores at TPC Sawgrass have hovered around the low teens under par, a trend that’s expected to continue.
Recent modifications to the course include extending the Par-5 ninth hole to over 600 yards. Yet, the course’s iconic feature remains the unchanged Par 3 seventeenth hole, with its legendary island green that has been the backdrop for many memorable golfing moments.
Betting Tips
Finding it pretty tough to look past Scottie Scheffler after the performance he put in at the Arnold Palmer on the weekend. He looked absolutely untouchable at PGA West and is racking up some ridiculous numbers over his last four tournaments when it comes to ball-striking. He is pretty short this week, however, so I’ll be looking elsewhere for value.
Viktor Hovland ($23 /Top 20 $2.10)
Hovland has been one of the top performers at TPC Sawgrass over the last few seasons despite not being able to break through for a win. After a missed cut in 2021, Hovland finished T9 in his 2nd trip to The PLAYERS before a 3rd place finish behind Scheffler and Hatton last season. Hovland has not missed a cut in a PGA Tour event since February of 2022, 32 events in total.
Adam Hadwin ($91/Top 20 $3.75)
For a bit more value this week, I like the look of Canadian Adam Hadwin. The No._ player in the world has a solid record at TPC Sawgrass, having finished T29, T9 and T13 in his last three trips to The PLAYERS. Is on a decent run of form as well, having finished T4 at the Genesis Open just a few weeks ago.
