Sandown Racing Tips: Wednesday January 24th

January 23rd 2024, 5:28pm, By: Brendan Bunworth

Sandown Racing Tips

Sandown Hillside gets the Wednesday timeslot in Victoria again and after no rain in the last five days the track should be a Good surface. A sunny 33 degrees is predicted and the first of eight races starts at 3:40pm (AEDT). After a loss on Saturday, I am keen to hit back here and return a profit for followers!

Find our best bets for Sandown below and make sure to head over to our Racing Tips page for more best bets from around the country this Wednesday!

Sandown Racing Tips: Wednesday, January 24th 2024

Race 3: Tobin Brothers Celebrating Lives Handicap - 4:50pm (AEDT)

(6) Catahoula is resuming for Team Hawkes after running a first, second and third on Good tracks previously. She has placed over this track & distance before and her jockey Jye McNeil knows her well which i think is important. Two starts ago the Hawkes team threw her in the deep end in the Listed Cap Dantibes Stakes and she ran well, running 5th but only beaten 2L over 1100m. She gets that distance again here and this race is easier than that.

(5) Guerra is 1 from 1 on the Dry and Craig Newitt on that occasion. He rides again here and she is resuming. She has never missed a placing in her short career and she won a Cranbourne jumpout over 1100m last week.

(4) Tanto was 3rd at this track on January 10 and she also likes Dry ground. She usually gets back in her races so will need luck in running but I can see her hitting the line well for 3rd.

(6) Catahoula

$4 (1 Unit)

Race 5: Stow Storage Solutions Handicap - 6pm (AEDT)

(5) Running on Time was backed into second fav at Caulfield last start and failed but I am giving her another chance here. She has placed in stronger races than this and with this being her fourth run from a spell, she should be fully wound up now. Barrier 2 is a good get for John Allen who rides the mare for the first time. She should position up midfield and get every chance to hook out late. She needs to lift but has been in full training for four months now. Fully fit!

(4) The Negotiator has Damien Lane sticking with him after running 4th at Geelong last start. Before that it was a comfortable Cranbourne win on December 22 when starting at double figure odds.

(3) Nursery Chime runs well over this distance and ran on well for 2nd at Flemington last start. There are a few run on horses in this race so she won't want to get too far back. Celine Gaudray gets the 1.5kg claim which will assist.

(5) Running on TIme

$4.50 (1 Unit)

Race 8: Sportsbet Same Race Multi Handicap – 7:30pm (AEDT)

*SCRATCHED* (4) Moveforlex may be favoured by the inside draw here because he is a gelding who likes to roll forward in his races and should lead again in this.

He wasn’t fit enough when first up at Cranbourne (5th) but now after a jumpout on December 15 at Kyneton (2nd) he will be ready. He has won 2 from 3 starts on the Good and he is 1 from 1 when second up from a spell. Egan takes the ride again after Michael Dee was on top last time and Egan won when on Moveforlex at his only appearance.

(3) Hard to Cross is suited by the extra distance and has more fitness on his side after 2 runs from a spell. He has won twice before at Hillside and he will likely settle midfield.

(2) Dublin Journal failed at his only try at this track but won over this distance last start at Flemington. He loves Dry tracks and will likely get back in this one and be one of the best swoopers

(4) Moveforlex
