After a small profit on day one of the year we continue on and head to Seymour for what is a rare midweek timeslot for the club. The track should be rated Good but there is a little rain about so it will be best to monitor conditions on race morning. Race 1 starts at 1:35pm with the running of the first of four Maiden Plates in what is a tricky afternoon for punters.

Seymour Racing Tips: Wednesday, January 3rd 2023
Race 5: Vale Paul Pegsy Egan Bm64 Handicap – 3:55pm AEDT
(11) Yosemite Falls has drawn barrier 12 which isn’t ideal really but the filly gets back in her races anyway so might head out the back early. She tried her luck at The Valley last start to no result but does drop back significantly in grader here. Beau Mertens takes the ride and we are really going off her 6.5L Echuca win back on April 23. That was impressive, and then she was spelled and she has had quality jumpouts since. She won a Camperdown jumpout on December 4 and she should be a lot fitter a month on in her prep.
(9) Pendante has drawn the rails and that may ensure she settles closer to the speed in this race. She is also second up and does seem to race better on rain affected ground which is a slight concern.
(8) Iluvcoffee stormed home at 20-1 at this track on December 21 and with fitness on his side he could continue his fine run of form. He does get back a bit in his races but it's a good sign Joe Bowditch is staying on here.

Race 6: Magic Millions Gold Coast Jan 9-16 Bm64 – 4:30pm AEDT
(6) Tewkesbury is the tip here if the track stays Good. He has had 3 starts this campaign and has looked good in all of them having raced in the top 4 on all occasions. At Ballarat on resumption from a spell he was beaten less than a length on the Good surface and he was beaten again 2 weeks later at the same track, again less than a length. He went to town next (Caulfield) and was 4th behind Dublin Journal who subsequently won on New Year’s Day at Flemington. He’s 100 percent fit now and as long as it stays Good he should go close to winning this.
(5) Stormy Grey has a wide barrier in 13 but does have the ability to run on well in his races. A downgrade in surface to Soft is okay for this one who is having his first try here.
(2) Sound of Cannons is struggling but has won over 200k in prizemoney so has to be respected. He is 1 from 1 over this distance and he is the best of the longshots. Dan Stackhouse rides again and he has won twice on top previously,

Race 8: Beer Auto Group Bm64 Handicap – 5:40pm AEDT
*SCRATCHED* (3) Signal is on a very quick back up after running 7th at The Valley on Saturday. He led and got very tired over the concluding stages but the Laurie stable is keen to run and they have been in very good form of late so I’ll stick with them. He has drawn barrier 1 in this so John Allen gets a nice decision to make, whether to settle handy in around 4th on the rails or potentially lead. He has had 9 goes on Good ground and has been in the money on 6 occasions and he did win on this surface from this barrier at Mornington on November 14. If the track is changed to Soft we will change our tip to the 4th emergency being Zapouring who is 50/50 on getting a run.
(18) Zapouring needs 3 more scratching’s to gain a run at the time of typing. He has already won over this distance and has had a freshen up since running 3rd at Lakeside after leading (beaten a head).
(11) Charming Di has drawn very wide in 15 and Teo Nugent will need a gun steer to win. I think he will try to settle midfield without being caught 3 wide and if he can do that, she is a definite place chance at nice odds. She has won twice on the Dry before and she rarely gets beaten far in her races.
