Cairns Taipans vs New Zealand Breakers

Friday 7:30pm AEDT, December 15th, Cairns Convention Centre

Two bottom four clubs will meet in the first of two games on Friday night in Round 11, with the Cairns Taipans welcoming the New Zealand Breakers to the Cairns Convention Centre. These clubs have already met twice this season, both in New Zealand, and the Breakers came away victorious on both occasions by 11 and 10 points respectively. However, the Breakers will be the visitors this time around and that’s been a big negative for them this campaign. They’ve won only once from six games on the road and have given up 87+ points in all six games. This makes for a tricky game to prediction, although I do give the Taipans the slight edge considering they’re at home and are back to full strength. It'll only be a low bet game for me however, as there are better betting opportunities to come this weekend.

Cairns Taipans -3.5

SE Melbourne Phoenix vs Illawarra Hawks

Saturday 5:30pm AEDT, December 16th, Gippsland Regional Indoor Sports Stadium

Saturday hoops begins with an intriguing encounter in Gippsland, with the South East Melbourne Phoenix taking on the Illawarra Hawks. The Phoenix were embarrassed in their opening game of Round 11, losing to Melbourne United comfortably in Throwdown XXIII. To make matters worse, captain and star player Mitch Creek picked up an injury and is set to miss this clash. However, new import Abdel Nader is expected to make his debut for the club. Meanwhile, the Hawks will be keen to keep the good times rolling after recording a terrific win over the Wildcats last start to make it two wins from three games under new coach Justin Tatum. They’re playing with a sense of urgency and intent on the defensive end and as long at that continues on Saturday, they should be able to take down the undermanned Phoenix.

Illawarra Hawks to Win

$2.45 (2 Units)

Melbourne United vs Adelaide 36ers

Saturday 8pm AEDT, December 16th, John Cain Arena

Championship favourites Melbourne United will play hosts to the Adelaide 36ers on Saturday night in what looms as a potentially one-sided affair. United have been in impeccable form so far in NBL24 and are coming off a dominant win over the Phoenix on Thursday night. They have a brilliant starting 5 and unrivalled depth, which is always a recipe for success. Elsewhere, the 36ers desperately need to lift their level if they’re to have any chance of competing for a Play-In spot this season. They enter Round 11 having lost three in a row and five of their last six games. Unfortunately the 36ers will be up against it again here and it’s almost impossible to see how they’ll remain competitive against the might of United. With that said, I’ll be taking United to record another very comfortable win.

Melbourne United -12

$1.90 (1 Unit)

Brisbane Bullets vs Cairns Taipans

Sunday 4pm AEDT, December 17th, Nissan Arena

Two teams having similar seasons will come together in the final game of Round 11, with the Brisbane Bullets taking on the Cairns Taipans. The Bullets have had a long wait to try and avenge their horrible performance last start against Melbourne United where they were obliterated by 35 points. Similarly, the Taipans were horrible in their most recent outing, going down cheaply at home against the Breakers. These clubs have already met twice this season and the Snakes have saluted on both occasions, once at home and once on the road. They’ve dominated the Bullets for a decent period of time now and although it has the potential to be close on Sunday, I still give them the slight edge.

Cairns Taipans to Win

$2.18 (1.5 Units)
