Minnesota Timberwolves at Golden State Warriors
Chase Center, 12:30pm AEDT
The red-hot Timberwolves get to test themselves in one of the toughest matchups on Monday when they travel to San Francisco to take on the Warriors. The Timberwolves enter this slate on a five-game win streak and have taken down a couple of contenders along the way in the Nuggets and the Celtics. However, they’ve done the bulk of their heavy lifting on their home deck early doors and are only 1-2 on the road with their only win coming against the rebuilding Spurs. Meanwhile, the Warriors are on a mini two-game slide and most recently fell to the Cavaliers at home in a game where Draymond Green was ejected. The Warriors will be desperate to bounce back with a win and I believe they can certainly do just that. The H2H odds in this matchup have been heavily influenced by the recent results of the Timberwolves, but they’re still yet to prove themselves on the road. Until then, I’m more than happy to oppose them.

Can someone other than Steph Curry step up on offence for the Warriors? Curry has top-scored for this team in all 10 games this season and he’s the only one to score over 20 points in a game. Klay Thompson is the obvious answer and I’m expecting him to lift on Monday night after his worst performance of the season last time out. Thompson has been far from horrible this season as he’s still shooting it at a clip that most players could only wish for. Still, he’s set lofty standards for himself and it’s time he started playing up to them. Thompson’s points line is currently sitting at 15.5 for this clash with the Timberwolves and providing he doesn’t shoot the absolute lights on, I expect him to cover.

Portland Trail Blazers at Los Angeles Lakers
Crypto.com Arena, 2pm AEDT
The final game of Monday’s juicy NBA slate pits the Trail Blazers against the Lakers in LA. The Trail Blazers are in full rebuild mode but have still been competitive more often than not early this season. They’ve won three of their last five games and one of their losses was in overtime last time out against the Kings. Elsewhere, the Lakers pulled off a great comeback win against a fellow contender in the Suns last time out, although the Suns were without superstar Devin Booker. Unfortunately, LeBron James was injured in the win and is set to miss Monday’s game with a left calf contusion. His absence is clearly a big one and it remains to be seen how Darvin Ham plans to fill the void. Regardless, this will give the Trail Blazers the opportunity to keep things close. The line has been set at 8.5 and on current form, I can see the Blazers covering.
