EPL 2023-24: Matchday 11 Preview & Betting Tips
Brentford vs West Ham
Brentford Community Stadium, Sunday 5th November, 2:00am AEDT
Tenth place Brentford host ninth placed Newcastle go head to head in a crucial clash at the Brentford Community Stadium. Brentford come into this game off the back of a two game winning streak after beating Chelsea 2-0 at Stamford Bridge on Matchday 10. The Hammers were beaten by fifteenth placed Everton last week to extend their winless streak to three games. West Ham dominated general play, but failed to capitalise in a game that they should have won.
West Ham’s struggles in defence have been the catalyst behind their form slump, with the Hammers having conceded 17 goals this season, the sixth most in the league. West Ham have conceded seven goals in their three game winless run, and are coming up against a Brentford side that have won their last two games by score lines of 3-0 and 2-0. West Ham play a style that has high variance in their output given their attacking style, which exposes their defence that does struggle when opposing sides build pressure on them.
Brentford have won all four meetings in the Premier League against West Ham since they got promoted to the top flight in 2021. The last three meetings have all resulted in 2-0 wins to Brentford, and with the way West Ham’s defence is playing at the moment, there is every chance for it to be another fixture that is one way traffic for Brentford. David Moyes’ side are desperately out of form, in what is going to be a nightmare match up against a red hot Brentford side.

Newcastle vs Arsenal
St James’ Park, Sunday 5th November, 4:30am AEDT
The match of the weekend takes place at St James’ Park as Newcastle takes on Arsenal. The Magpies have moved into sixth place after a six game unbeaten run, with Eddie Howe’s side turning into an attacking juggernaut over the past two months. A 5-0 win over Sheffield United kept Arsenal’s unbeaten season going, with the Gunners in second place behind arch rivals Tottenham.
Arsenal were at their ruthless best on Matchday 10, with 13 shots to Sheffield’s 2, holding the Blades to zero shots on target. The Gunners dominated the territory battle, recording 68% possession, in a great performance after an underwhelming draw against Chelsea. This matchup pits Newcastle who are the equal highest scoring team in the league with 26 goals, and Arsenal who are ranked second with 23 goals. Both clubs are also ranked in the top five defences with Arsenal ranked second and Newcastle ranked fifth.
This will be a cracking encounter between two of the form teams of the league. Arsenal have had the wood over Newcastle, winning eight of the last ten Premier League fixtures between the two sides, including a 2-0 victory the last time they faced off. Both sides are well balanced and in form, however the Gunners have a back four that’s capable of stifling the Newcastle attack, which will be the difference in this clash. Mikel Arteta’s men will continue to keep the pressure on Tottenham at the top of the league.

Tottenham vs Chelsea
Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, Tuesday 7th November, 7:00am AEDT
Matchday 11 rounds out with another all London clash between Tottenham and Chelsea. Ange Postecoglou’s side once again dominated possession en route to a 2-1 victory over Crystal Palace, and get a golden opportunity to extend their four game winning streak against an out of form Chelsea. Chelsea were beaten 2-0 by Brentford despite having 17 shots on goal to 7, and having 67% possession. It was another frustrating outing for Mauricio Pochettino’s side who are languishing in eleventh place.
Ange Postecoglou has revolutionised the way Spurs have played, and it’s created a consistency across all parts of the pitch for Tottenham. Tottenham have the third best defence in the league having conceded just nine goals through the first ten games of the season. Spurs are the equal fourth ranked attack in the league with 22 goals. To pair with their excellence at each end of the pitch, Tottenham rank second in the league for possession with 62.2% possession.
Chelsea have struggled in their front third this season, and with the way Tottenham have scored with ease this season, it’s hard to see Chelsea finding a way to match it with Spurs. Tottenham have been a model of consistency this season with their ability to control games through dominating possession which has allowed them to generate scoring opportunities at will. Tottenham are on fire at the moment and they won’t be slowing down against an up and down Chelsea side.
