Randwick Racing Tips: Saturday, October 21st 2023
Race 1: James Squire Kirkham Plate – 1000m (12:35 AEDT)
(3) Blue Illusion is deserving of another go. Was a solid favourite but drifted late prior to debut where he didn’t perform. Slow recovery there and can bounce back now with added experience.
(8) The Three Hundred trialled well enough and could have a V8 under the hood because he’s yet to be let go and given his head. Waterhouse team is flying and could have another good one here.
(2) Agenda Setter is in this race on the back of 2 nice trials leading up to his debut. I Am Invincible colts tend to be well-developed at 2 and 3 so expect this bloke to be strong.

Race 2: Tab Highway Hcp (C3) – 1800m (13:10 AEDT)
(2) Amerantz is drawn in gate 1 here after storming into 2nd last start from a wide barrier. She’ll be able to hold a much more prominent position this time and should be very hard to beat.
(4) Whodat isn’t drawn too badly either and comes out of some good city races up in God’s country. Curious to see how that form stands up here.
(3) Lord Desanimaux was far better than 9th placing suggests last start and he’s drawn slightly better this time getting up to 1800m. Not out of it.

Race 3: MIDWAY BM 72 HCP – 1400m (13:45 AEDT)
(5) Peace Officer is the deserving favourite here after a solid run from a wide draw last time where he was unable to get into the race until it was all over. He’s drawn a little wide again here but with more luck should be winning.
(15) Satness beat home this favourite last time but had all favours. He’s drawn wide here and will need to cross and lead to have any chance of winning. Can he do it?
(3) Rebel Shadow is a sneaky roughie here drawn neutrally and receiving a 3kg claim under Amy McLucas. 3rd last time and could produce a similar performance.
(5) Peace Officer - Win
$4.20 (2 Units)
Race 4: BM 88 HCP – 2000m (14:20 AEDT)
(6) Marquess is the top selection here by some stretch. Blitzed his rivals and buried a talented horse in Howgoodareyou in the process. Can go on with it up to 2000m here.
(4) Stroke Of Luck sees the 2km 2nd up here and was placed in multiple black-type races over these longer trips last prep. Highly capable.
(1) Mission Phoenix is the sole leader of this race which means he’ll inevitably give a good sight and look the winner at some point of the race. Likely to be run down late though.

Race 5: F&M BM 78 HCP – 1200m (14:55 AEDT)
(5) Overriding drops back to 1200m and will be competitive at e/w odds here from an inside draw. She’ll lead or sit very handy which will give her every possible chance.
(12) Commemorative is hyped up hugely here after a massive debut win. Only 52kg to carry so should be considered here but evens is very short for a lightly-raced filly.
(3) Kazou is some danger. Tommy Berry is riding well and the horse trialled nicely leading up to her return.

Race 6: BM 78 HCP – 1100m (15:35 AEDT)
(7) Smashing Eagle just wins. He’s a group grade winner in the making and will be too good for Bm78 company here with only 58.5kg to carry.
(9) Jedibeel will need to cross early and find a close position from the wide gate to threaten here. That does look a task for him but if he can get some luck he’s not without a chance.
(8) Contemporary has some ability but hasn’t been able to win much and has become a regular placegetter. He may have improved enough to win a few races this prep so worth keeping an eye on.
(7) Smashing Eagle - Win
$4 (2 Units)
Race 7: FILANTE HCP – 1600m (16:10 AEDT)
(11) Unspoken is hard to go past. He just has the optimal racing style and knows how to win which makes him very valuable and eliminates bad luck from his races. He should settle in the front few pairs from barrier 6 and with 52kg will be awfully hard to beat in the straight.
(4) New Mandate is going better than his last few runs might suggest. Keen to see how much he can improve here.
(9) Wild Planet can perform well here with only 53kg to carry. Wide draw is a minor concern for him but nothing he can’t overcome with a bit of luck.
(11) Unspoken - Win
$2.80 (2 Units)
Race 8: FIVE DIAMONDS PRELUDE – 1500m (16:50 AEDT)
(5) Cotehele is the ne here. Heavily backed 1st up to be brutally unlucky after missing the start, being held up and losing by a narrow margin on the line. Form ties in with Democracy Manifest around Palmetto.
(2) Democracy Manifest would be a top chance here if not for the wide draw. Don’t know how he overcomes that but if he does, he can win this.
(6) Waterford can’t be left out here with back-to-back G2 placings prior to an average performance last start. Tommy Berry back on now!
(5) Cotehele - E/W
$5.50/$2.20 (1 Unit)
Race 9: BIG DANCE WILD CARD – 1600m (17:35 AEDT)
(7) Spangler is ready to explode here. His recent trial was incredible after a solid performance in the Cameron Hcp.
(1) Flying Crazy has a huge weight to carry now after racing with barely any weight last start. That’s the only concern but the horse is drawn well and comes out of good form lines.
(16) Highlights is drawn well here. Only 52kg to carry and could be a sneaky threat in the race at big odds.
(7) Spangler - E/W
$6.60/$2.60 (1 Unit)
Race 10: BM 88 HCP – 1200m (18:10 AEDT)
(3) Much Much Better has a great hope here with the 3kg claim from the good barrier down in class. He boasts strong records over these trips so should be performing well here.
(5) Extremely Lucky is yet to hit his straps for Chris Waller since changing stables but may be able to do so here in an easier race to some which he has contested so far.
(7) Pizarro tries his heart out and will do so again here 3rd up. It will be tough for him to win but the race seems fairly open and with some luck he could be the one bursting through the gaps late.
