PGA Tour Wyndham Championship Betting Tips
Sedgefield Country Club, Thursday 3rd - Sunday 6th August
The Wyndham Championship will be the last opportunity for PGA Tour players to earn the all important FedEx Cup points to climb into the all important top 70 on the standings before the playoffs start at the St. Jude Championship next week.
The Field
There is some real star power in the field as some of the slightly underperformers throughout the year attempt to earn those last chance FedEx Cup point. There is no more obvious example of this than Justin Thomas. The former FedEx Cup Champion currently sits in 79th place in the standings and will need a strong performance to climb into the field for the St. Jude Championship.
Other big names that are on the bubble needing a strong performance this week include Shane Lowry (76th), Adam Scott (81st), Joel Dahman (82nd) and Billy Horschel (116th).
Previous winners of the Wyndham Championship who will be back in action this week include Jim Herman, J.T. Poston, Brandt Snedeker and Kim Si-woo.
The Course
Sedgefield Country Club in Greensboro, North Carolina will be the host of the Wyndham Championship once again this season. The course is a 7,131, Par 70 that opened in 1926 and serves as a regular stop on the PGA Tour. Distance isn’t a massive issue at Sedgefield but dialed in iron play on approach is, as the Donald Ross designed course features very small and hard to locate green complexes.
Good course management and strong play from tee-to-green will be important at Sedgefield, and we’ll be targeting top players in greens in regulation percentage, strokes gained on approach and strokes gained from tee-to-green. The course features small, undulating greens and places a strong emphasis on good course management and hitting greens in regulation.
Betting Tips
Sung-jae Im ($21/Top 20 $2.20)
Im finds himself in unfamiliar territory this season down in 36th place on the FedEx Cup standings. The South Korean perennially ranks amongst the top PGA Tour players in total events played and generally has a pretty high standing in the FedEx Cup but the absence of a win this year sees him further down the leaderboard than he would like. Koreans have tended to fair well at Sedgefield in the past, with K.J. Choi, Kim Si-woo and Tom Kim all having recorded wins in the past 20 years. In four trips to Sedgefield over the course of his career, Im has finishes of 6th, 9th, 24th and 2nd.
Webb Simpson ($81/Top 40 $2.40)
Getting some juicy odds for former winner of the Wyndham Championship, Webb Simpson, this week. Simpson hasn’t played in the last four weeks, likely to gain some form back after a bit of a slump through the middle patch of the season. However, his form at Sedgefield is absolutely undeniable. He has played the Wyndham Championship 14 times over his career, finishing in the top 10 a ridiculous nine times to go with this win back in 2011. A withdraw last year snapped a five event streak with finishes of 3rd, 2nd, 2nd, 3rd and 7th.
