Gold Coast vs Brisbane

The Brisbane Lions and the Gold Coast Suns are set to do battle in the QClash for the 25th time. The Suns will be the hosts on this occasion and will be aiming to snap a nine-game losing streak in this matchup.
Gold Coast were able to get a win in Steven King’s first game in charge against the Saints in Round 18, but were unable to double the dose last weekend when they were thoroughly outplayed by the Giants. The Suns have now lost three of their last four matches and have slipped to 14th on the ladder.
Now 1.5 games outside the top eight, it’s do-or-die for the Suns and their finals hopes this season. They’re the only club in the competition that has never featured in September action and they’ll need to turn their form around drastically if that’s to change in 2023.
Brisbane managed to bounce back from a bitterly disappointing loss against the Demons with a strong win against the reigning premiers last weekend. The Lions got the jump on the Cats early in the piece and were able to hold on long enough to secure the four points.
The Lions home record improved to 9-0 for the season with last weekend’s win, although their road form has left a lot to be desired (4-5). However, they’ll take a lot of confidence into their road matchup with the Suns this weekend knowing they’ve won each of their last five trips to Heritage Bank Stadium.
Considering the Lions dominance over the Suns in recent years coupled with their far superior form, I’m surprised the handicap has been set at just 17.5 points for this Round 20 fixture.
The Lions are one of the form teams of the competition and with a near full squad to pick from, I expect them to extend their winning streak in the QClash to 10 with a comfortable victory over their rivals.

Brisbane to Win – The Lions are the far superior team and although they’re the visitors on this occasion, I just think they win this.
Charlie Cameron – The Suns have some fantastic tall defenders, but their smaller types aren’t so good. Charlie Cameron should be able to hit the scoreboard here.
