The Players Championship Betting Tips
TPC Sawgrass, Florida, Thursday 9th - Sunday 12th March
It was a solid week at the Arnold Palmer for BYB followers last week. Matthew Fitzpatrick finished inside the top 30 for a good winner at odds of $1.80, while Jason Day also helped us collect a top 20 winner at odds of $2.10. Our saver bets in Rory McIlroy ($2.15) and Scottie Scheffler ($2.25) both also hit top 10s for a profitable week. We’ll look to continue that form as we preview The Players Championship below.
The Field
The $25 million on offer this week is the most of any event on the PGA Tour this season, so as expected, the field is absolutely jam-packed full of talent. All of the top 20 players in the world will be in attendance except for the defending champion of the tournament, Cameron Smith, who will of course miss the event after signing on with LIV Golf.
At the top of the betting markets are the usual names including Rahm, Scheffler, McIlroy, Cantlay, Thomas, Homa and Schauffele. All up, 49 of the top 50 on the current FedEx Cup rankings will be in attendance.
Defending champions of The Players who will be back in an attempt to win another trophy include Justin Thomas (2021), Rory McIlroy (2019), Webb Simpson(2018), Si-woo Kim (2017), Jason Day (2016) and Rickie Fowler (2015).
The Course
TPC Sawgrass is one of the most famous courses in the world and has hosted The Players every year since all the way back in 1982. The course plays as a Par 72 at 7,275 yards and has long been considered one of the most difficult courses on the PGA Tour schedule. Over the last few seasons, the average winning score at TPC Sawgrass has been in the low teens under par, and will likely be that way again.
There have been some changes to the course over the past year, most notably the lengthening of the Par-5 ninth hole, which will now play at over 600 yards. However, the signature hole at TPC Sawgrass is one that has barely changed over the years, the Par 3 seventeenth with its famous island green hole that has provided some thrilling moments over the years.
Betting Tips
Rory McIlroy ($10/Top 10 $2.25 at bet365)
How can you look past the Northern Irishman superstar this weekend. The No.3 player in the world has a great record at TPC, including one win and a further four top 10 finishes over the years. He is rounding into some brilliant form as displayed with a T2 at the Arnold Palmer last week. Should be a lock for another top 10 this week.
Keegan Bradley ($41/Top 30 $2.20 at bet365)
Not many players in the PGA Tour have been able to rack up consistently good results at TPC Sawgrass over the years but one that can make that claim is Keegan Bradley. The No.20 ranked player in the world has made the cut in his last six trips to TPC Sawgrass, including three finishes inside the top 16 in that period. Also finding some good form with a T10 at Bay Hill on the weekend.
Jason Day ($29/Top 30 $1.91 at bet365)
Outside of the obvious pick in Jon Rahm, Jason Day might be the most in form golfer on the PGA Tour at the moment. The Australian has been fantastic over the last few months despite the lack of a win. He seems to be playing with a lot more freedom at the moment, and in his last six events has racked up finishes of T10, T18, T7, 5th, T9 and T10.
