Caulfield Racing Tips: Saturday, October 8th
Race 2
(2) Old Flame is a winner of four of nine and did run very well when second beaten less than a length one month ago for Team Snowden. Jamie Kah is on which is a bonus and if there is a strong tempo up front Old Flame can run over the top of them. On August 27 at Rosehill she was very good when winning by a head on a Soft 6 so track conditions won't matter for this one today.
(5) Regardsmaree is fitter after a pretty good effort first up when sixth at Sandown Hillside. The talented Iwishiwin was in that race, so she is slightly down in class here.
Before that she was second in a jumpout which saw quality horses engaged.
(7) Jimmy The Bear for Patrick Payne is very consistent and has finished in the top five his last five attempts. He goes well on Soft and Good tracks so probably doesn't want too much rain for the next 24 hours.
(11) Imperial Lad goes pretty good second up and is one to watch at odds.
(2) Old Flame WIN
$2.90 (2 Units)
Race 4
(7) Gravina was good last start despite running unplaced (fourth) in the Testa Rossa. I thought she was ridden poorly and should have finished even closer than her length and a half away. Williams goes off and Blake Shinn goes on and I think the Cummings trained gelding will settle just off midfield this time where he likes it rather than on speed, second or third early. That was a strong race that one and this guy's second up form is quite good.
(4) Triple Missile has won four from 10 and is another who will sit just off the pace. He is first up but has had two trials to get fit enough for this.
(3) Prince of Boom was wide at Moonee Valley when eight in the Chautauqua Stakes but backed that up with a good fourth on a Heavy surface at Caulfield last time. He is one that wants more rain to fall.
(12) Curran is consistent and might get the last crack at them. He goes well at this track but hasn't won in over 12 months.
(7) Gravina WIN
$5 (2 Units)
Race 5
(8) Point Nepean will be a lot fitter now and while he is on his journey to the Melbourne Cup, he could pinch this on the way. A Soft or Good track on the day holds no issues for him but he probably doesn't want too much rain. He is one from two second up and the distance is ideal. His first up run was pretty good considering there was a nice tempo on, and he was with them on speed. Each-way.
(9) Regal Lion is one from three second up and is another who doesn't want the rain to come in the lead up to the race. At Sandown Hillside last time he got the money when basically coming from last and he will be hitting the line hard at the end.
(2) Persan is an interesting runner. We all know he has talent but not a lot went right for him last campaign. The Maher & Eustace stable are still confident he can improve this time and have another crack at the Melbourne Cup. He is fitter now and hopefully he doesn't get caught wide again like he did last start.
(12) Saracen Knight won pretty easily at Mornington last start on a Soft 5 and Jamie Kah sticks with him. He should sit midfield and be able to creep into the race from the 400m in a race that looks to have a little bit of pace.
(8) Point Nepean Each-way
$10.00/$3.20 (1 Unit)
Race 10
(3) Zapateo usually sits just off the pace so Damien Oliver will have to try and get over from barrier 12 and get on the back of one without getting caught wide. After coming over from NSW her Caulfield win was just excellent over 1200m in a Group 3 race and she does look to have two or three lengths on these ones. She loves Soft ground and won on the Heavy by 1.25L last time so she will want some rain.
(1) Turaath is first up for the Maddie Raymond stable and from all reports is flying.
(2) Seradess will be fitter now after getting tired late when first up.
(5) Written Beauty was luckless last start, and the stable will be treating this as a first up assignment. Goes good on wet ground.
(3) Zapateo WIN
$2.40 (3 Units)
