EPL 2022-23: Matchday 10 Preview & Betting Tips
Manchester City vs Southampton
Etihad Stadium, Sunday October 9th, 1am AEDT
Manchester City are rolling, and Southampton are in for a long day at the Etihad this weekend. Manchester City dispatched of their crosstown rivals Manchester United, with a 6-3 win headlined by Erling Haaland’s third Premier League hattrick. Haaland shattered the record of fastest to three Premier League hat tricks, taking just eight games to achieve the feat - 40 games fewer than the previous record holder, Michael Owen.
The Saints are languishing in sixteenth place on the Premier League table and are currently on a three-game losing streak. Manchester City have been outstanding at both ends of the pitch this season, with a league best 29 goals from 8 games. To pair with their number one ranked attack, City are the equal third best defence having conceded just 9 goals.
The defending champions have dominated Southampton across the last five years, with an 8-2-1 record against the Saints since 2017. Man City’s goal difference of 20 perfectly illustrates how good they’ve been this season, and they’ve got far too much attacking power for Southampton to keep at bay. This game could get ugly, quickly.

Brighton vs Tottenham
American Express Community Stadium, Sunday October 9th, 3:30am AEDT
Tottenham travel south to take on Brighton in a top four clash on Sunday morning with a massive opportunity for both sides to entrench themselves inside the top four. The Seagulls are coming off a spirited performance in a 3-3 draw at Anfield against Liverpool, in Roberto De Zerbi’s first game in charge. Tottenham had a horror showing in the North London Derby, on the end of a 3-1 defeat against Arsenal.
Brighton are the second best defence in the Premier League having conceded just eight goals this season. The Seagulls have also been great going forward, possessing the sixth most prolific attack in the Premier League this season (14 goals). The change of manager didn’t seem to affect Brighton in a quality performance away from home last week, and they’ve got some serious momentum behind them.
Tottenham were smashed in every aspect last week and with Emerson suspended after picking up a red card, Spurs are vulnerable. Brighton have won two of their last three Premier League fixtures against Tottenham, and have played a disciplined, consistent brand of football that is more than capable of beating Spurs.

Arsenal vs Liverpool
Emirates Stadium, Monday 10th October 2:30am AEDT
A mere ten points from seven games sees Liverpool struggling in ninth place on the Premier League table, and things don’t get any easier for the Reds when they take on the league leaders Arsenal. The Gunners have a 7-0-1 record after taking care of rivals Tottenham 3-1 last week. Despite Manchester City’s great form, Arsenal continue to keep a hold of top spot.
Although they’re struggling right now, Liverpool match up extremely well against the league leaders. The Reds have won six of the last seven Premier League matches between the two sides, with score lines of 2-0, 4-0, 3-0, 3-1, 3-1 and 5-1. An aggregate score of 20-3 across those six wins, and Liverpool’s dominance of the Gunners stretches back even further. Liverpool hold a 9-4-1 record since 2015 against Arsenal, which will give Jurgen Klopp’s side an abundance of confidence for this must win fixture.
All the statistical analysis this season points towards an Arsenal win, however this Liverpool side under Jurgen Klopp have always found a way with their backs against the wall. If Liverpool can get control of the game in the first half, they’re going to be tough to beat. On the big stage at the Emirates is a perfect time for Liverpool to get their season back on track.

Bournemouth vs Leicester (Sunday 1am AEDT)
The Foxes finally snapped into gear with a 4-0 drubbing of Forest last outing to pick up their first points since opening weekend. They get another look at a freshly promoted club this weekend, which they can use to kickstart their campaign. The Cherries have been competitive over their past four games to pick up six points, but they’ve ridden their luck during their span and don’t have the quality the Foxes possess. I’ll be with the visitors to record another win.

Chelsea vs Wolves (Sunday 1am AEDT)
Chelsea won in unconvincing and certainly controversial fashion against Crystal Palace last weekend, which was their third win from their last four league matches. In contrast, the Wolves succumbed to their second straight defeat without scoring a goal. In fact, the Wolves have scored just three goals in eight matches this season. This looks to be an easy kill for the Blues and I’m happy to be on them to win by 2+ goals.
Chelsea -1.5 ($2.15 at TAB)
Newcastle vs Brentford (Sunday 1am AEDT)
After six league matches without a win, Newcastle finally secured all three points against Fulham last outing. An early red card for Fulham certainly made things easier, but the Magpies looked a lot better regardless and banged in four goals. They have a fantastic opportunity to keep the ball rolling with another win against a mediocre Brentford outfit, and I expect them to make the most of it.

Crystal Palace vs Leeds (Monday 12am AEDT)
Crystal Palace were unfortunate not to be playing a 10-men Chelsea team in the second half of their clash last weekend, and heartbreak followed when former player Conor Gallagher powered in a Chelsea winner at the death. Palace have a great opportunity to bounce back this weekend however, as they come up against a Leeds outfit that has secured only two points from their last four league matches.

West Ham vs Fulham (Monday 12am AEDT)
The Hammers are slowly working their way into the new campaign and are coming off a strong 2-0 winning performance at home to the Wolves. They stay at home this weekend and host Fulham who were embarrassed by the Magpies last weekend. Making matters worse, star striker Aleksandar Mitrovic was injured in the loss after lasting just over 30 minutes. They’ll struggle to penetrate a stingy Hammers defence, and I expect the home side to be collecting another three points as a result.

Everton vs Manchester United (Monday 5am AEDT)
The Toffees are in a rich vein of form at the moment after winning each of their last two games and being undefeated in their last six. In contrast, United’s confidence would’ve taken a huge hit last outing when they were hit for six against City in the Manchester Derby.
Both teams will see this as a winnable fixture, which should lead to another attacking affair. With that said, taking both teams to score looks to be the move in this one.

Nottingham vs Aston Villa (Tuesday 6am AEDT)
Not the sexiest of fixtures to cap off a weekend of football, but there’s still some value in it and some money to be made.
Despite Nottingham leading all comers in terms of money spent in the transfer window, their performances on the pitch remain underwhelming to say the least. They were humiliated by the then winless Foxes last weekend, and now sit bottom of the table. On current form, it’s hard to see them beating any EPL side, so Villa H2H will be the play here.
