The Silver Eagle headlines a big day of racing at Randwick this Saturday with ten races across the afternoon. The four year olds will go head to head in the key lead up towards the riches of the Golden Eagle in a few weeks time. Unfortunately once again Sydney has copped heavy rain all week and the forecast isn’t looking any better come race day.
The track is currently rated a heavy 10 and there is still a heap of rain predicted to hit Friday and Saturday. It isn’t looking promising but let’s hold on to some hope that we can get through the meeting.
As always, Billy Bestford has cast his eye across the program and brings you his free horse racing tips, including best bets and race previews.
Randwick Racing Tips: Saturday October 8th
Race 2
He’s been popular in early markets and I think (12) Kote can atone for his extremely luckless Midway effort a couple of weeks ago. That was essentially a barrier trial for him and was never out of first gear. His win on a very wet Canterbury track before that was impressive and tells me he should be fine in the conditions today. Hopefully the gaps come at the right time and he can put them away.
(1) Mayrose comes out of the same race and was a similar hard luck story. She very nearly fell over when clipping heels and then flew home when finally getting out but it was too late. 4th up and hard fit she will have plenty of fans.
(7) Verbek was the money horse in that race and flew home to just miss the winner. Looks to get a nice run here from gate 2 and will handle the conditions.
(6) Holy Tycoon can lead and is a big fan of these heavy tracks. The slight rise to 1200m should suit.
(12) Kote
$2.80 (2 units)
Race 4
Going to have something on (4) Nettuno here who is a good wet tracker and has proven himself to be right up to this level. I like him drawn out here and he can track outside leader or just in behind the speed. 3rd up he should be hard fit and is knocking on the door for another win.
(1) Best Of Bordeaux was much better last start when finding the lead and only being run down late by In Secret. That horse was then a nose from winning the Golden Rose. He’s probably the best horse in this race.
(9) Willinga Beast will be suited dropping back to 1200m and she is a good wet track horse. She gets in nice and light and maps for an economical run from barrier 4.
(3) Sweet Ride seemingly always goes into his races underrated and always runs well. Had a little freshen up trial since a good 3rd in The Run To The Rose and he can figure in the finish once again.
(4) Nettuno
$6.50 (1 unit)
Race 7
Have to think (3) Williamsburg is going very well considering he comes into this just a week after a dominant win in the Dulcify. He does his best work on these heavy tracks and while drawn widest, he will get back anyway and have the last shot at them. Up to 1800m now looks perfect and I think he can make it back to back wins.
(7) Flag Of Honour is also on the quick backup from the Dulcify and was probably in the inferior ground there. He’s been good in both runs to date this prep and should be set to peak now 3rd up and out in trip. He is good enough to win this.
(5) Sharp ‘N’ Smart dug deep to win first up back in New Zealand. Should strip fitter for that and he went within a nose of winning the JJ Atkins last time we saw him in Aus. Never seen a heavy track but if he handle it he will go close.
(6) Matcha Latte ran a big 2nd to Golden Mile in the Ming Dynasty and has come back in terrific order. Will need a good ride but the outside fence might be the best place to be.
(2) Promitto looks the big improver getting out to this sort of trip now. He is still very lightly raced and expect Nash gets the best out of him from the inside draw.
Value: (7) Flag Of Honour - $19 (0.25 units)
(3) Williamsburg
$4.00 (1 unit)
Race 8
Feature of the day sees the four year olds line up in the Silver Eagle and I’m keen on (2) Mr Mozart. Think he’s got too much early speed for these and should get across from the wide gate and from there he can prove tough to catch in the mud. Grows another leg in wet conditions and just needs to translate his winning ways to Randwick. I think we will know our fate in the first couple of hundred metres but we are getting a better price to find out.
You don’t see them win at Canterbury how (9) Loch Eagle did very often when charging from last at the top of the straight. He was first up there and expect he only improves now into this run. Clearly come back in top order and he could be the won coming down the outside late in the piece.
(14) Espiona is turning into a tough horse to follow. She does plenty wrong and her racing pattern doesn’t help but we’ve seen the talent that she possesses. She ran some quick late sectionals 2nd up and is set to peak now. Her best can win.
(12) Waterford is an exciting horse and has won all three starts since coming to Aus. He gets through rain affected as good as any and is so strong through the line at each start. He drops back to 1300m but if he can put it all together here he will go close.
(1) Converge is next best.
