UEFA Champions League Matchday 2 Betting Tips
Bayern Munich vs Barcelona
Wednesday 14th September, 5.00am (AEST)
The matchup of the week sees German giants Bayern Munich facing off against Spanish juggernauts Barcelona. This will mark the first time that former Bayern striker Robert Lewandowski has faced his old side since moving to Barcelona in the off-season.
The Polish striker has got off to a good start in the La Liga this season, booting six goals through his opening five games to help Barcelona to 2nd spot on the table with a 4-1-0 record. They have won four on the trot and are coming off a 4-0 demolition job of Cadiz on the weekend.
Bayern Munich have had a quiet start to the season by their lofty standards, currently sitting in 3rd place in the Bundesliga with a 3-3-0 record. They won their first three games of the season but have since gone on to draw their last three. Bayern Munich have been absolutely dominant over Barcelona in recent history, winning seven of their last eight games against the Spanish side.
I think this one goes against the trend though. Barca come into this game in better form and I like the odds of them to at least get a result here.
Liverpool vs Ajax
Wednesday 14th September, 5.00am (AEST)
It’s been a shaky season for the Reds so far in both the EPL and the Champions League. They sit in 7th place on the EPL table with a 2-3-1 record and were handed an embarrassing 4-1 loss at the hands of Napoli in their opening UCL match last week.
The Reds find themselves in an extremely difficult group alongside Napoli, Rangers and their opponents on Wednesday morning, Ajax. It’s business as usual for the Dutch giant this season as they currently sit atop the Eredivisie with a 6-0-0 record. They were also super impressive against Rangers last week, recording a 4-0 to move to top of the table.
Can the Reds bounce back here? There’s not a lot of value for them to win at home at 1.50. Instead I like the overs here. Both of these teams play an attacking style, with Ajax having plundered 21 goals through six games in their domestic league while the Reds have scored 15.
Manchester City vs Borussia Dortmund
Thursday 15th September, 5.00am (AEST)
Another mouth-watering matchup here which features a prominent ex Bundesliga striker facing off against his old club for the first time. Much like Lewandowski, Erling Haaland has ben dominating in new colours, having plundered 10 goals through just five games for Manchester City in the Premier League.
He added another two in the sides 4-0 UCL win over Sevilla last week and will be looking to put on a show against his old side this week. Despite the star striker’s form, Man City haven’t looked the invincible force through the early stages of the Prem, sitting in 2nd place having already dropped points in two of their six games.
Dortmund have a 4-0-2 record in the Bundesliga and currently sit in 5th place. In Germany, I think they are a decent chance here, but this trip to Manchester City will be a tough one particularly with the English side on an extended break due to EPL games being postponed over the weekend. Like Man City to win this one in a high scoring game.
