EPL 2022-23: Matchday 7 Preview & Betting Tips

September 7th 2022, 12:12pm, By: Jack Tobin

EPL Betting Tips

Last week was a huge week of Premier League football, and now only three points separate fifth placed Manchester United from league leaders Arsenal. Man City and Spurs headline a massive weekend of football for Matchday 7.

Jack Tobin has you covered with his tips for this weekend, and be sure to check out our EPL Tips page for previews of each Matchday this season.

EPL 2022-23: Matchday 7 Preview & Betting Tips

Fulham vs Chelsea

Craven Cottage, Saturday 10th September, 9:30pm (AEST)

Matchday 7 kicks off with an all-London matchup, as Fulham host Chelsea. Chelsea head to Craven Cottage on the back of a controversial 2-1 victory over West Ham, which saw them move into sixth place with a 3-1-2 record. Fulham have had a surprising start in their Premier League return, sitting in tenth place when most expected them to be in the relegation zone. Fulham had one win and one loss last week, in fixtures against third placed Tottenham and fourth placed Brighton.

Aleksander Mitrovic has been the catalyst for Fulham’s positive start, with six goals from six games ranking him second in the Golden Boot race. However, the Serbian hasn’t scored against Chelsea from six appearances against them in the Premier League. If Chelsea can keep Mitrovic at bay, it will go a long way to securing a win in this clash.

Chelsea have won seven consecutive games against Fulham in the Premier League and are unbeaten against Fulham in their last twenty Premier League fixtures against Fulham. Despite Chelsea having a slow start to this season, Chelsea are at outstanding value in the head to head markets for this clash. They’ll continue their excellent record against their fellow London side on Saturday night.

Manchester City vs Tottenham

Etihad Stadium, Sunday 11th September, 2:30am (AEST)

The headline fixture of Matchday 7 takes place on Sunday morning, when third placed Tottenham travel to the Etihad to take on second placed Manchester City. The defending champs had a mixed week last week with a 6-0 over Nottingham Forest midweek, but they were also held to a 1-1 draw against Aston Villa.

Tottenham also had one win and one draw, with a 1-1 draw against rivals West Ham, and a scrappy 2-1 win over Fulham. The big issue for Spurs is how to stop Erling Haaland. The star signing has bagged ten goals in six games - the equal fastest a player has reached the goal mark in the Premier League. Haaland has two hat tricks from the first six games, and he looms as a daunting prospect for opposing clubs this season.

Both teams are on 14 points, and this should be a cracking fixture, however City have looked the better of the two clubs this campaign. City have a goal difference of 14 compared to Spur’s 7, and their four wins have all come by margins of 2+ goals. The defending champions have scored a league best 20 goals, 5 more than any other side in the league. Haaland and City are playing some outstanding football, and they’ll be too good for Tottenham.

Arsenal vs Everton

Emirates Stadium, Sunday 11th September, 11:00pm (AEST)

Arsenal’s perfect start to the season came to an end on Monday morning, with a 3-1 defeat at the hands of Manchester United. The Gunners will be looking to get back on track when they face Everton on Sunday evening. Everton are one of only two winless teams in the Premier League this season, with an 0-4-2 record from their six games. Despite the poor start to the season, the Toffees put in their best performance of the campaign in their last outing, a 0-0 draw against Liverpool in the Merseyside Derby.

The differential in scoring power is the biggest factor in this clash. Everton have scored 5 goals from 6 games (ranked 17th in the Premier League), while Arsenal have scored 14 goals from their 6 games (ranked 4th). Arsenal have had seven individual goal scorers this season - the third most of any side in the Premier League this season.

Arsenal thrashed 5-1 when these sides met on the final day of the ‘21/’22 Premier League season back in May, and the Gunners have only gotten better. Gabriel Jesus is going to give the Everton defence some massive troubles, and with the way Arsenal’s midfield is currently playing, they are going to dominate possession in this clash. The Gunners will bounce back from their first defeat of the season, with a big performance against the Toffees.

More EPL Matchday 7 Tips

Bournemouth vs Brighton (Sunday 12am AEST)

The Gulls have been ultra-impressive this season and are coming off a dominant 5-2 win over the Foxes. They have a fantastic opportunity to continue their fine form with an easy kill away at Bournemouth. I expect them to make the most of it.

Brighton ($1.80 at Ladbrokes)

Leicester vs Aston Villa (Sunday 12am AEST)

Leicester’s had a nightmare start to their campaign with one point from six matches, and Villa haven’t fared much better with only four points to their name. Neither side has managed to keep a clean sheet to date, so I’m expecting there to be plenty of goals in this one.

Over 2.5 Goals ($1.80 at Ladbrokes)

Liverpool vs Wolves (Sunday 12am AEST)

Their 9-0 win aside, Liverpool have only scored six goals from five matches this season and are lacking serious confidence at the moment. Wolves are also struggling to score, netting only three times from six outings. With that said, there looks to be some solid value in the Under 2.5 Goals market here.

Under 2.5 Goals ($2.50 at TAB)

Southampton vs Brentford (Sunday 12am AEST)

Southampton have had mixed results to date, while the Bees have been good enough to lose only once. The Bees are the better form side for me but being the away side does level the playing field. Still, I think there’s some potential money to be made on them to win, although I’ll be taking the Draw No Bet market for a bit of insurance.

Brentford Draw No Bet ($2.20 at Ladbrokes)

West Ham vs Newcastle (Sunday 11pm AEST)

Newcastle started off the season with a strong win, although their form since has left a bit to be desired. The Hammers would also be disappointed with their results to date, although they’ve been a bit stronger in their last two outings. Both teams will believe they can get all three points from this fixture, so I expect it to be an attacking match. This leads me to believe that both teams will score at least once.

Both Teams to Score ($1.75 at TAB)

Crystal Palace vs Manchester United (Monday 1:30am AEST)

After a nightmare start to their campaign, Manchester United have found a rich vein of form having won each of their last four league matches. Wins over Liverpool and Arsenal during this stretch would’ve instilled a lot of confidence in the group, and they should be able to go on with it against Palace.

Manchester United H2H ($2.10 at Ladbrokes)

Leeds vs Nottingham (Tuesday 5am AEST)

Leeds were disappointing in their loss to Brentford last time out, but their form so far this season has certainly been solid. They get the perfect opportunity to get back onto the winners list when they host a Forest outfit that’s struggling to adapt to the top tier. I like the home side to grind out a win here.
