Thoroughbred racing returns to Ladbrokes Park (Lakeside) on Wednesday, a track that has seen its fair share of racing during the midweek time slot this year.
The track is currently rated a Heavy 9 after the rain on Monday and horses that have form on Soft and Heavy ground come into calculations in many of the races here.
The rail is out six metres the entire circuit and the first gets underway at 1pm.
Brendan Bunworth is back with his Sandown racing tips below!
Sandown Racing Tips: Wednesday 24th August
Race 2
(6) Mahrez is my best of the day for the in-form stable of Mick Price & Michael Kent Jnr. He won well on debut and has put in a nice jump out prior to nominating for this event. He hasn't been on the heavy which is a slight query, but I think he's better than the rest and there are better races for him in the Spring.
(7) Michigan is very fit and should put in a top three performance at each-way odds.
(13) Bors for the Chris Waller stable will be looking to run on at the end.
(5) Dustland Fairytale loves the Heavy but i think he needs one more after an improved effort at Geelong last time. If there is rain around on Tuesday afternoon or Wednesday morning however, he goes up to second pick.
(6) Mahrez
$2.90 (3 Units)
Race 5
(3) Chatelaine is not the best horse in the race but is the fittest horse in the race. He returns to Ladbrokes Park after being backed in to win last start when second and trainer Patrick Payne has him ready to go again after failing to run out of the top four in his last five races.
(6) Hard Squeeze won well at this track last start and will look to run on-pace throughout.
(1) Mahashakti has 64 kilograms on her back and is one of the best horses in the race but is not racing too great at the moment. She's better than that.
(8) Mannerim Miss has Jamie Kah on top and brings very good country form into this race.
(2) Spirit of Gold is better than recent form reads.
(3) Chatelaine EW
$7/$2.40 (1 Unit)
Race 6
*Scratched* (7) Snapped has had a nice trial since running ninth of 13 at Caulfield last start. She probably could have won her trial (third) with Jamie Kah taking a look and from barrier one in this race should position up just behind the leaders. Matthew Cartwright gets the ride and will have to work out what part of the track is best to come down on the home turn. From and inside barrier, he may have to look to veer off on the bend.
(3) Jillette is first up from a spell but did look to have some class last prep.
There may be a race for her later in the Spring.
(11) Picarones has Damien Oliver on top and this looks a nice race to start his campaign.
(16) The Sisters for trainer Pat Carey looks to be value.
(8) Cuban Link is first up and raced well last campaign.
Race 7
*Scratched* (3) Invincible Jet has drawn poorly in barrier 18 but i am counting on the possibility that horses may be running on down the outside of the home straight by the last and barrier 18 may become an advantage. He is third up from a spell and should strip fitter after running well at Caulfield (fourth) over the 1200m last time. This race is not as hard as the last two and Jordan Childs will look to be positive on this on-pace runner.
(7) Sandy Prince has been in the money eight of 10 starts and is a clear second pick.
(12) Along the River is another who should strip fitter after two runs back from a spell.
(9) I am War won well at Cranbourne last start.
