Racing this Saturday in Melbourne heads back to Caulfield where there are nine races on the card with the Sir John Monash Stakes the feature of the day. There looks to be a few wide open races and the promise of some up and coming horses on show make for a great day of racing.
The track is currently rated a good 4 with the rail out 3 metres the entire circuit. There is a few showers forecast for Friday and Saturday so keep an eye on track conditions as we may see a downgrade.
As always, Billy Bestford has cast his eye across the program and brings you his free horse racing tips, including best bets and race previews.
Caulfield Racing Tips: Saturday July 9th
Race 2
Want to speck a couple here in a wide open race because I think there is some value on offer.
The first of those is the resuming (4) Gold Spark who has shown a bit of ability since arriving in Aus. He won in this grade when first up last year at this track and has a very good record over the 1100m, winning three from four. A recent jump out really caught my eye and I think he is in for a very good prep.
(1) Zipping Boy is the other I’m happy to have something on. Resumes back in the Jerome Hunter stable and was trucking a long under a nice hold in a recent trial. He’s got a bit of a class edge on some of these and has been competitive in better races than this. Think he can run a bottler at a big price.
(3) Algernon is a very interesting runner coming up from Tasmania and boasting an impressive 4/4 first up record. Has won six from ten in career and clearly stable have a bit of an opinion. Watch the market because he has some X factor.
(10) Belsielle never helps herself with her racing pattern but it was an eye catching 3rd last start, running home in very hot sectionals. If she’s not too far off them when they turn she can win.
(15) Daralina Belle is super honest and is nearing peak fitness now 3rd up. Two good runs this prep without much luck and maps for all favours.
Value: (1) Zipping Boy - $31 (0.25 units)
(4) Gold Spark
$10 (0.5 unit)
Race 6
(14) Miss Chrissie looks an exciting horse and was quickly put away following her debut win where she romped in by 4.5L over the 1000m. This is clearly a big rise in grade but her jump out leading into this was super and I think she can win this and go on to tackle a few better races. Her figures out of that debut run were huge and I doubt we have seen anything near her ceiling.
(7) Sigh has done nothing wrong to date, winning both career starts. The first up win was huge, missing the start and then circling the field to run down the leader. Impressive from a horse having just her 2nd start. Progressive.
(13) Forbidden City won by a measly 8L when resuming last prep and then went on to tackle some hot races. She will get to the lead from the carpark draw and could run them into the ground. I don’t want to lose on her.
(4) Commands The Field is as honest as they come and while she doesn’t win out of turn you can’t knock her at all. Will be right in the finish again.
(1) Forzanini brings Sydney formlines and is a very good fresh horse. Looks the blowout.
Also Backing: (13) Forbidden City - $12 (0.5 unit)
(14) Miss Chrissie
$4.40 (1.5 units)
Race 8
(4) Oxley Road won a jump out leading into this in dominant fashion and looks to have come back in great order. Far from disgraced in G1 Oakleigh Plate this track/trip finishing 3rd. He’s a gun fresh horse and can put himself up on speed and be too good for this lot. Think he can go to that next level this prep and just looks well in here at WFA.
(10) Bless Her looks the value for me and can run a hole here. She’s had a little freshen up and two good jump outs since the last time we saw her. Any rain suits and I just think she can run much better than her price suggests. Loves the Caulfield 1100m.
(9) Felicia is another who resumes and I think she can win. Looks airborne from what I have seen at her work leading into this race and is another horse. She probably doesn’t want it too wet but looks to get every favour from the gun draw with Mcneil on board.
No doubt (8) Mileva will have fans as always fresh. Has been tuned up with two jump out wins leading into this. The stable have a very good record with producing fresh winners.
(5) Ashford Street is next best and is flying. Not sure he is suited at WFA conditions however.
(4) Oxley Road
$3.20 (2 units)
Race 9
Plenty to like about that first up win from (15) He’s Our Bonneval. That race was all over at the 300 and really finished the race strongly. Sure to improve here 2nd up with added fitness and I like the fact he’s clearly got a bit of upside. Well down in the weights for this suits.
(12) Take The Sit is far from the worst here and brings to this a very strong 2nd up record. Resumed with a good win fresh and loves the 1400m. She’s super honest and expect her to be flashing home late from back in the field.
(9) Lackeen comes up from Sydney and will be suited 2nd up geting out to this trip. Any rain helps his chances and the Godolphin stable are striking hot at the moment.
(10) Proconsent has form around Tuvalu and is 4th up here and rock hard fit. Expect he is ready to win one now.
(18) Umgawa next best.
Value: (12) Take The Sit - $17 (0.25 units)
(15) He's Our Bonneval
$4.40 (1 unit)
