EPL Matchday 25 Betting Tips
Manchester United vs Southampton
Saturday 12th February, 11.30pm (AEDT)
Manchester United dropped out of the top four after being held to a 1-1 draw by Burnley during the week. Southampton produced a dramatic comeback with goals in the 79th and 82nd minute to defeat Tottenham 3-2 away from home on Thursday. Both teams have been in similar runs of form with 2-2-1 records in their last five Premier League fixtures.
Southampton have conceded the 8th most goals in the Premier League this season with 36, and it makes for bad reading coming against a Manchester United side that has scored for fun against Southampton in the last few years. The Red Devils are unbeaten in their last eleven Premier League meetings against the Saints, with an aggregate score of 24-10 in those eleven games.
Old Trafford hasn’t been a happy hunting ground for Southampton, with just two wins from twenty two attempts in the Premier League era. Manchester United’s depth is going to play a huge role with the short turnaround between games for both sides. The Red Devils have put up massive scorelines in their recent fixtures against the Saints, with a short turnaround and a second consecutive game on the road, Southampton's defence will be vulnerable.
Everton vs Leeds United
Sunday 13th February, 2.30am (AEDT)
A new manager in place but it was the same fortunes for Everton, who lost to Newcastle 3-1 during the week in a result which leaves them in a precarious position. The Toffees are in 16th place on 19 points, just two points clear of the relegation zone. Leeds are in 15th place, four points ahead of Everton after a dramatic 3-3 draw with Aston Villa midweek. Leeds trailed 3-1, but managed to snatch a crucial point to keep them two games ahead of Everton.
Everton have picked up just five points from their last fourteen games, going 1-2-11 in that timespan. Frank Lampard has a massive challenge to repair a fractured club on the fly, that has won just one of their past seven games at home. This fixture provides a massive opportunity for Leeds to put a sizeable gap between themselves and the bottom five clubs that are fighting for survival.
Against the five sides below them on the Premier League table, Leeds have a 3-3-1 record. Although they’ve had a difficult season, they’ve performed well in significant games. These two sides have been extremely poor in defence this season, which means we will likely see an end to end affair, which will suit Leeds a lot more than Everton. Leeds have been able to create attacking angles from their midfield with some aggressive passing, and against an Everton defence that is struggling, they'll be able to produce plenty of goal scoring opporuntites.
Burnley vs Liverpool
Monday 14th February, 1.00am (AEDT)
20th placed Burnley bravely held on for a 1-1 draw with Manchester United during the week, to keep themselves four points adrift from safety. It’s another tough challenge for the Clarets when Liverpool comes to town. The Reds are twelve points behind league leaders Man City, but could close that gap to six points with the two games in hand they have. With Mo Salah and Sadio Mane returning soon to the side, the title race isn't over for the Reds yet.
The discrepancy in attack is a major concern for Burnley, who have scored just 17 goals this season, the second fewest in the Premier League. Liverpool are the highest scoring team in the league with 58 goals this season, and they’ve got the 4th best defence that has conceded just 19 goals this campaign. Burnley don’t have the firepower to keep pace with Liverpool, and they also don’t have the firepower to test their defence.
Burnley have a 1-11-8 record this season, and their record in the Premier League against the Reds doesn’t make for any better reading. The Clarets are 2-2-11 against Liverpool in fifteen Premier League fixtures. Burnley will try to sit back and deny Liverpool clear opportunities, however this game could get ugly with the difference in talent between these two sides.
