AFLW Round 6 Betting Tips
Richmond vs North Melbourne
Friday March 5, 5:10pm
The Tigers broke through for their first ever AFLW win last week with a 47 point win over Geelong. Monique Conti once again dominated for the Tiges, racking up 27 disposals in a best on ground performance. North Melbourne claimed a crucial victory over Carlton in round five, ending a two game losing streak which sees them jump back into the top six. North’s experienced stars led the bounce back with Jasmine Garner (32 disposals), Emma Kearney (28 disposals) and Riddell (23 disposals) all having massive influence in the win. The Kangaroos managed to fix their ball movement struggles, and used the ball incredibly well by foot, which makes them such a dangerous side when they get going. Whilst the Tiges dominated the midfield battle last week, they face an uphill battle against the big bodied Roos midfield that looks to be back in form. With ruck Emma King giving the Roos midfield first use, it’s hard to see the Tigers being able to generate scores from their back half. North have been one of the best sides over the past two seasons, now they’ve gotten back on track, you can expect a massive charge by the Roos in the race to the finals. Despite the momentum behind the Tiges, the Kangaroos will be too strong in this clash.
North Melbourne (-21.5)

GWS Giants vs Brisbane
Saturday March 6, 3:10pm
Brisbane sent a statement to the competition with a remarkable upset on the road against Fremantle, ending their 11 game winning streak - the longest in AFLW history. The match reaffirmed Brisbane’s status as a genuine contender, with the Lions sitting second on the ladder. Whilst the Lions have been renowned for their attacking prowess in the last two seasons, last week's win was built on their defence, as they held the Dockers goalless until late in the last quarter. GWS struggled against the tall Western Bulldogs forward line in a 25 point loss to the dogs, as Isabel Hungtington and Bella Toogood tore the Giants backline to shreds. The Giants are facing one of the League’s most dynamic attacking sides in the Lions, and if last week was anything to go by, it doesn’t look good for the Giants this week. Emily Bates was on fire last week with 26 disposals, as she provided incredible service for the Lions forwards. If the Lions can convert more efficiently this week, this game could get ugly quickly. The Lions out-tackled the best pressure team in the competition last week, and if they continue to bring that pressure every week, they will be an incredibly tough team to stop. Expect the Lions to produce a big performance again this week.
Adelaide vs Gold Coast Suns
Saturday March 6, 5:10pm
The Crows have hit their straps in the last two weeks, with impressive wins over the Lions and Saints. The 53 point win over the Saints has the Crows sitting fourth with a 4-1 record, with only percentage separating the teams between second and fifth on the ladder, the Crows are a genuine chance to finish top two. The Suns were left ruing a poor start, as they lost to the Eagles by one point last week, continuing the Suns winless season. The Crows midfield is red hot at the moment with Ebony Marinoff (23 touches), Erin Phillips (21 disposals, 1 goal) and Anne Hatchard (20 disposals) continuing their incredible form. Since round one, the Suns are averaging a total score of just 12, whilst the Crows are averaging a total score of 45 in that time. It’s hard to see the Suns keeping this game close given their inability to score, and their ability to concede huge scores. The Crows have put up some big scores this season and whilst the line is a big one, the Crows have an average winning margin of 37 this season and they shouldn’t have much trouble covering the line. The Suns have lost games by 31, 65 and 49 points so far this season. You can expect a big win from Adelaide in this one.
Melbourne vs St Kilda
Saturday March 6, 7:10pm
After a 3-0 start to the season, the Demons have fallen out of the top six with back to back losses in the last two weeks. They face a St Kilda side that copped a 53 point hiding from Adelaide, which showed how far off the young Saints are from the elite teams in the competition. Melbourne have kicked a combined 2.20 in their last two matches, which has cost them dearly and could cause some mental scars if they don’t correct it soon. The Saints connection between their midfield and forward line is a massive concern, the Saints won the disposal count against Adelaide, but could only turn it into three scoring shots compared to the Crows’ 21. The Demons midfield has generated enough opportunities for their forwards, so if they can convert their opportunities, they should be able to get back to their winning ways. The Dees key position players at both ends will give the Saints some serious troubles. The midfield battle will be entertaining, however the Demons have the Saints covered at both ends of the ground. Melbourne have shown when they’re at their best, they are one of the best teams in the competition, the Demons will get back on the winners list.
Carlton vs Geelong
Sunday March 7, 12:40pm
After coming into the season as premiership fancies, Carlton’s season is hanging by a thread. After a 22 point loss to North Melbourne in round five, the Blues sit in 8th with a 2-3 record, and will need to be near perfect to qualify for finals. They get a golden opportunity to get back on track when they host the winless Cats, who became the first team to lose to Richmond in the AFLW. The Cats have struggled to remain competitive this season, losing by an average margin of 36 points, only kicking nine goals from their five games this season. Outside of Maddy Prespakis, the Blues midfield which was so hyped coming into the season, has struggled badly and without Prespakis last week, the Blues midfield got exposed badly. Tayla Harris will create plenty of trouble for the small Cats defence with her marking ability, which should open up plenty of avenues for Carlton to score. Coming up against a struggling Geelong outfit the likes of Elise O’Dea, Lucy McEvoy, Grace Egan and Jess Hosking have an opportunity to find the form they showed in 2020. With their season on the line, expect the Blues to come out firing and secure a big win.
Collingwood vs Western Bulldogs
Sunday March 7, 2:40pm
After a ruthless 35 point win over Melbourne, the Pies sit atop the AFLW ladder as the only undefeated team in the competition. Chloe Molloy starred up forward once again with three goals, and the Pies dynamic midfield trio of Bri Davey (23 disposals), Britt Bonnici (23 disposals) and Jaimee Lambert (21 disposals) were outstanding. The Bulldogs come into this clash on a four game win streak after Isabel Huntington and Bella Toogood ran riot, kicking three goals each in a 25 point victory against the Giants. This matchup features two of the most well rounded sides in the league. The Pies will be looking to their midfield to provide them an advantage, whilst the matchup between Stacey Livingstone and Isabel Huntington is set to be a ripping battle. If the Pies defence can limit the influence of Huntington and Toogood, they will have too much scoring power for the Bulldogs to handle. The Bulldogs don't have a great matchup for Chloe Molloy, and the star Pie could wreak havoc in this clash. Whilst the Bulldogs have been impressive over the past month, it’s impossible to go against Collingwood with the way they’re playing at the moment. This is going to be an entertaining clash, but Collingwood will be too good for the Bulldogs.
West Coast Eagles vs Fremantle
Sunday March 7, 4:40pm
Optus Stadium hosts the second Western Derby of the season, as the Eagles and Dockers face off to conclude round six. The Eagles hung on for dear life to pick up their first win of the season as they defeated the Suns by one point in round five. The Dockers suffered their first loss since 2019, as their record breaking eleven game winning streak came to an end at the hands of the Brisbane Lions. The Dockers failed to bring their renowned pressure, and they struggled in front of goal, kicking just 1.8. Despite many of her teammates struggling, Kiara Bowers continued her incredible season racking up 24 disposals. Last week’s loss will sharpen up the Dockers in their run towards the finals and you can guarantee that you’ll see a sharp Fremantle outfit, producing a brand of footy they are known for. If the Dockers can get their pressure game back on track and convert inside fifty, they will break this game open and create plenty of scoring against this struggling West Coast side. The Eagles joy from last week will be short lived, the Dockers haven’t lost to the Eagles in the AFLW, and they’ve simply got too much talent for their crosstown rivals to handle.
