A-League Matchweek 7 Betting Tips
Brisbane Roar vs Melbourne Victory
Saturday 5:05pm AEDT, Hindmarsh
Brisbane Roar are coming off a 3-1 win at home to Adelaide United in a game that they controlled from start to finish. Through four games, Roar look like the best team in the competition and would have an unblemished record if it weren’t for some horrible luck against Melbourne City a couple of weeks back.
Melbourne Victory fans were hoping that their huge comeback win over Perth Glory would see their team turn the corner after a horrible 2019-20 campaign, but after their last performance against Western United, fans might want to hold their breath; Victory were thoroughly outplayed and were the luckiest of lucky not to go down as losers in the 0-0 draw.
These clubs played each other just a couple of weeks back in Melbourne and it was Roar who dominated the game and ended up as 3-1 winners. Recent performances and results tell us that Brisbane will be going 2-0 up in the season series against Melbourne on Saturday.
Newcastle Jets vs Melbourne City
Sunday 4:05pm AEDT, Hunter Stadium
Newcastle Jets drew 1-1 against the Western Sydney Wanderers in their Round 6 fixture courtesy of an 81st minute equaliser by Roy O’Donovan. You could definitely argue that the Jets deserved more from that fixture as it was probably their best performance over 90 minutes this season, including their win over Phoenix.
Melbourne City’s season looked to be getting back on track when they went up 2-0 in the first half against last season’s Spooners in the Mariners, but some lacklustre defending and an unnecessary red card resulted in a humiliating 2-3 loss. City are now 2-0-3 on the season and will be very dissatisfied about it.
Neither club bring great form into this fixture, but this is definitely Melbourne City’s game to lose. They’re the runner-up from a year ago and have too much quality to be sitting in the bottom half of the table, albeit being only six rounds in. We expect City to bounce back and win this game against one of the poorer teams in the competition.
Sydney FC vs Wellington Phoenix
Monday 7:10pm AEDT, Jubilee Stadium
Sydney Fc were impressive 3-0 away winners against Macarthur FC last time out. Prior to that they were disappointing 2-0 losers at home to the Mariners, which was surely a catalyst to their recent performance. The champs come into Round 7 at 2-1-1 and are just five points off top with two games in hand.
Wellington Phoenix started the season with just one point from their three opening fixtures, but managed to bounce back with a win against the Mariners, albeit a lucky one when you consider the game’s events. Phoenix are now 1-1-2 on the season which is decent considering what they’ve dished up so far.
Sydney FC looked like the champion team we know they are in their last game against Macarthur and now back on their home deck, it’s very difficult to make a case against them securing back-to-back wins, especially against a lacklustre Phoenix outfit. Sydney should be winning this game and we’re happy have them as our best play of the round at anywhere north of $1.75.
