A-League Matchweek 6 Betting Tips
Western Sydney Wanderers vs Newcastle Jets
Friday 7:05pm AEDT, Bankwest Stadium
Western Sydney Wanderers are off to hand start this campaign and look to be building with each game they play. They opened their campaign with a loss to Macarthur, bust have since had wins over the Jets and the Mariners, with the former shaping up as a good measuring tool as it’s the only loss the Mariners have had to date.
Newcastle Jets were the easy beats at the start of the season with three losses in as many games, but managed to bounce back with a much needed three points against Wellington Phoenix last time out, which lifted them off the bottom of the ladder.
The Wanderers look like a good side through four games and we’re surprised to see that they aren’t odds on favourites here. Yes, the Jets won their last game against the Jets, but they face an in-form team in the Wanderers here and we only see this going one way.
Western United vs Melbourne Victory
Saturday 5:05pm AEDT, AAMI Park
Western United played their part in what will likely go down as the game of the season against Perth Glory last weekend. They were up 1-0 at the half but ended up 5-4 winners at full time in what was a crazy second 45 minutes. That win was United’s first of the season through three games.
Melbourne Victory looked dead and buried and destined for their third straight loss to start the season, but in stepped Jake Brimmer. He scored two very late goals against his old side in Perth to deliver Victory fans some joy at last. Victory come into this matchup with one win from their three outings.
Both teams are coming off wins against Perth Glory, but United are the far better team in our opinion. They’ve beaten the hottest team in the league and have also beaten Victory in all of their three meetings to date. Easy tip here.
Central Coast Mariners vs Wellington Phoenix
Sunday 4:05pm AEDT, Bluetongue Stadium
Central Coast Mariners are the team that everyone’s talking about at the moment and for very good reason. They opened their campaign with two cagey wins, lost to the Wanderers 1-0, but bounced back with a huge 2-0 away win against the defending champs in Sydney FC. Right now, the Mariners occupy top spot on the ladder, which is crazy to believe.
Wellington Phoenix have had to transport over to Australia for their games this season and it hasn’t boded well for them thus far. They’ve played three games, two of which have been losses, and come into this round on the bottom of the ladder.
Phoenix definitely have a talented team, but they haven’t adapted well this season, which is certainly something you can’t say about the Mariners. Despite coming off a huge 2-0 win against the champs, the Mariners are $3 favourites at home and that’s way too good to pass up on current form.
