Match Prediction
It’s a massive game between two quality sides that are in very different patches of form. The Scorchers have catapulted into title contention with six wins from their last seven games, whilst the Hurricanes have struggled recently after a hot start to the season. An incredible Ben McDermott innings against the Thunder got the Hurricanes back on the winners list. The Scorchers smashed the Heat by 59 runs on Tuesday night in a well rounded effort.
The Scorchers have a big advantage on already having a game under their belt on the surface at Marvel Stadium. Plenty of batsmen have struggled early in their innings in the first two games, so already having success at Marvel will give the Scorchers plenty of confidence. The Scorchers have been the best performed batting unit in the competition of late, with power hitting right through the order in Roy, Livingstone, Munro, Inglis and Turner. The Scorchers have the luxury of being able to go right from the word go. To go with the batting, Jhye Richardson has taken the most wickets in the competition with 21 wickets at an average of 11.52 with an economy rate of 6.28.
The Scorchers are on a roll, and they have a golden opportunity to go a game clear in second place. Led by a dominant batting unit and a bowling attack that just keeps getting the job done, the Scorchers have launched themselves into title contention. The Scorchers have won their last two games against the Hurricanes, including a nine wicket smashing just over a week ago. With the form the Scorchers are in it’s hard to go past them and having already played a game at Marvel Stadium will be a massive advantage.

After bursting onto the scene with a breakout BBL09 campaign, Nathan Ellis has followed it up with a quality season in BBL10. Ellis has taken 13 wickets at an average of 19, and also has a remarkable economy rate of just 7.9, given he bowls at the death. Since the turn of the calendar, Ellis has produced some excellent performances with figures of 2/11, 3/31 and 1/35 in his past five games.
Ellis bowls crucial overs at the death when batsmen are going at their hardest, this provides Ellis with plenty of wicket taking opportunities. Ellis’ use of his slower balls against the hard hitting Scorchers lineup will be crucial. Ellis’ will be perfect at getting everything out of the Marvel Stadium pitch, which batsmen have struggled on early. He will be full of confidence coming back to Marvel Stadium, where he bowled an incredible final over to secure a Hurricanes win in their last match at the venue back in BBL09. This pitch will suit Ellis perfectly, expect a big showing from the crafty fast bowler.

Kiwi Colin Munro has enjoyed a phenomenal start to his BBL career, smashing 353 runs at a strike rate of 132 to be the fourth highest run scorer in the competition. Munro’s recent form has been outstanding, scoring four half centuries in his last five games to lead the Scorchers from the bottom of the table, into second place. Whilst most batsmen have struggled at Marvel Stadium so far, Munro showed the temperament required to succeed on the challenging wicket and he cashed in smashing 82 off 54 balls in a man of the match performance on Tuesday.
Munro targeted the shorter square boundaries effectively on Tuesday punishing anything back of a length that the Heat bowlers dished up. Munro has scored 268 runs at an average of 53 in his last five games, with knocks of 52, 50, 50, 34 and 82. He is in red hot form and hasn’t shown any signs of slowing down anytime soon. With a chance for the Scorchers to firmly establish their spot in second on the BBL table, expect Munro to put up another big score.
