We continued our successful start to the A-League season with another profitable round in Matchweek 3. We now turn our attention to what should be a much busier Matchweek 4 where there are expected to be six fixtures play out. We preview the key matchups of the upcoming round below and wish you the best of luck if following our tips!
A-League Matchweek 4 Betting Tips
Melbourne City vs Western United
Saturday 7:10pm AEDT, AAMI Park
Melbourne City opened their season with a win over Brisbane, but weren’t able to go on with it against Adelaide last weekend when they went down by two goals. City haven’t quite looked at their best in their first couple of weeks and will be looking for ways to get Jamie Maclaren more involved up front.
Western United have only played the one game so far this campaign, which was on opening round when they finished 0-0 against Adelaide. United were perhaps lucky to come away with a point from that game, but have now had plenty of time to go over film and look to get their first win on the board.
Both Victorian clubs will be expecting to go deep into the finals this year, but neither has looked that good from what we’ve seen so far. With that said, we do give Western United a legitimate chance of an upset here considering how City how vulnerable City have looked at times in defence. It’s a tough game to call, but playing Western United and Draw looks to be the best value.

Newcastle Jets vs Macarthur FC
Sunday 4:05pm AEDT, Hunter Stadium
Newcastle Jets are still without a head coach and the lack of leadership seems to be translating to their performances on the pitch. They’ve come up against two of the lesser teams in the competition to start the season and have lost on both occasions, which just shows where they’re at right now.
Macarthur FC made a winning start to life in the A-League when they defeated the Wanderers in Matchweek 1. They’ve found it a bit tougher in their two matches since, picking up just one point, but they certainly look like a team that can fight for a finals spot in their inaugural campaign in Australia’s top flight.
We’re surprised to see the Jets as favourites in this fixture considering their performance to date. Macarthur have looked far better in the early stages of the season and have won their only away game thus far. We believe they should be odds-on favourites here and are more than happy to play them at their current quote.
Central Coast Mariners vs Western Sydney Wanderers
Tuesday 7:05pm AEDT, Bluetongue Stadium
Central Coast Mariners have surprised many with their perfect start to the season. They’ve knocked off both Newcastle and Macarthur in their first two games and are yet to concede a goal. It’s apples and oranges from how they’ve started the season in recent campaigns.
The Wanderers were able to take advantage of a poor and disorganised Newcastle Jets outfit last weekend to secure their first win of the season. Prior to the turn of the new year the Wanderers lost to Macarthur, which makes them 1-0-1 coming into this weekend.
The bookies still haven’t given the Mariners any respect despite their two wins to nil to start the season. We have them as a red-hot chance in this matchup, so we’re more than happy to play the 3-1 odds.
