BBL10 Scorchers vs Thunder Betting Tips

Saturday night in BBL10 sees the Perth Scorchers hosting the Sydney Thunder from 7.15pm at Optus Stadium. The Scorchers have been fighting their way up the table by winning their last three games in a row and will look to continue their momentum at home on Saturday night.

As usual, we have you covered with a full preview and betting tips for the clash below.

Match Prediction

The Thunder are the hottest team in the Big Bash League at the moment. They have a 6-2 record through the opening half of the season and sit atop the table with 22 points. Their batting line-up has looked absolutely unstoppable and they boast two of the top 5 runscorers in the league in Alex Hales and Callum Ferguson. They are the only team to have posted multiple scores of 200+ this season and they are coming off a dominant win over the Hurricanes on Thursday night.

The Scorchers started the season in very slow fashion but have won their last three on the trot and are making a surge towards the top five. Their batting has really been on display over their last two games, putting up 185 in a win against the Renegades before plundering 183 against the Sixers on Wednesday night. They followed up both of those batting performances by bowling each team out for under 100.

It’s no surprise that the return to Optus Stadium has coincided with a return to form for the Scorchers. They have always been the team most reliant on the home-field advantage in the BBL and regardless of whether they are playing at Optus Stadium or the now defunct WACA, they will also be in the game at home.

Because of that, the Scorchers start as the slightest of favourites at home, but this game is pretty tough to pick. Their batting has looked great over the last two games but I think there is still plenty of cracks in that top order with Jason Roy, Liam Livingstone and Josh Inglis all largely unproven in this BBL campaign. While we aren’t as confident as we have been in some other games this BBL season, we have to side with the form team in the competition and back the Thunder here.

Perth Scorchers Prop Bet

Jason Roy has looked okay but has failed to really set the world alight as we’ve seen him do on the international stage countless times. The signs are there but we think he might have a tough time of it on Saturday night. The English star has generally struggled in Australia, averaging just 17.39 across 19 T20 innings on Aussie soil.

His record against the Thunder also isn’t very impressive. Roy has lined up twice against the lime green and averaged just 14.50 runs. He likes to go hard at the start of the innings which can easily go pear shaped. Back his unders here.

Alex Hales has looked dominant over the past four innings. After a slow start to the year which saw him accumulate just 46 runs through his first three innings, Hales has been on an absolute tear over the last few weeks. He has plundered innings of 35, 71, 45 and 46 across his last four and will be keen to get revenge on the Scorchers after he was dismissed for a duck earlier in the year.

Amazingly, the 197 runs he has scored in his last four innings have come at a ridiculous strike rate of 207.3, which means the Thunder have been getting off to blistering starts allowing them to cruise to big scores of 180+. He is capable of passing the 25.5 run line in the first few overs of the power-play. Back him to get the Thunder off to another good start.
