Horse Racing Tips: Wednesday, December 9th
Sandown Race 6 (Market)
In an open race, (7) Moeen can run well at each way odds. The Stokes camp have a very good fresh record, and this mare did win on debut before running well in some decent races at starts 2 and 3. Her run at this T/D before a spell was very sound, with a few handy horses including last week’s impressive winner Modear, in behind her. At $9, she appeals as a good value bet, with the favourite (1) Witchfulthinking clearly the horse to beat after an 8L demolition at Terang.
Sandown Race 8 (Market)
(4) Fundraiser hasn’t done much wrong this prep and deserves to be favourite again. First up he ran 3rd to The Astrologist which is very strong form, before atoning for that defeat with a comfortable win over 1200m at Mornington. The horse he beat there, Brazen Song, came out and won nicely at Werribee on Sunday, so the form is already stacking up. Fundraiser draws wide here and goes up 2kg, but this isn’t much harder, and I think 1400m will be fine off some his form last prep. With a nice run midfield courtesy of Damien Lane, he’ll be hard to beat again.
Warwick Farm Race 4 (Market)
(5) Strawb is clearly the most talented horse in this race, and was expected to win on resumption at Newcastle, but nothing went to plan. She played up badly pre-race and probably should’ve been scratched before doing very little once the gates opened. Some of her form last prep was very good, with a dominant 3.4L win in a Newcastle bm70 as the $1.40 favourite highlighting her ability. If she’s recovered from that ordeal last start, and a recent trial win certainly suggests she has, she will be very hard to beat.
