The Spring carnival may be over but there's plenty of quality horse racing to look forward to on Saturday, including the Zipping Classic meeting at Sandown, The Hunter meeting at Newcastle and the Champion Fillies Stakes meeting at Ascot!

Horse Racing Tips: Saturday, November 14th
Sandown Race 8
The G2 Zipping Classic is the feature race of the day at Sandown and (6) Lord Belvedere looks a decent each way bet at $6.50. He has won five of his nine starts since moving to Australia, and although he was disappointing last start, I think he can bounce back here. Two starts ago he defeated Persan, who then ran 5th in the Melbourne Cup. He also has a win over the likes of Chapada and Sin To Win in his form, which has held up recently. He’s had six weeks since that last race but he tends to race well fresh and this stable are always very dangerous in the staying events. Not sure barrier 2 is ideal but hopefully Melham can extricate off the rails and into clear running with plenty of time to spare.

Newcastle Race 8
If (7) Strawb is ready to go today, he’ll be very hard to beat. He’s won four of his seven starts and was put straight out for a spell after failing badly on the heavy track at Kensington last time he was seen. He’s won three of his four starts when first up and this is his home deck. He’s undefeated over this track and distance, with winning margins of 2.3L and 3.3L. The stable go well here and I’m confident this horse will be going very close here today.
Ascot Race 6
One of the day’s features at Ascot is the Gold Cup, which looks an extremely good race for (2) Too Close The Sun. He won three races in Melbourne last preparation, including the Warrnambool Cup, and his first run back in WA was a corker behind Inspirational Girl. He’ll be much better suited stepping up to 1800m today, he has a good second up record and he’s going to get conditions to suit with rain predicted in Perth. He’s unbeaten on rain-affected going so if he gets across well enough from barrier 13, he’s going to be awfully hard to run down. (9) Mystery Miss looks a good value chance in the race at $14.

Ascot Race 7
The feature at Ascot is the G3 WA Champion Fillies Stakes. The favourite (2) Snickerdoodledandy comes into this on the back of a narrow victory in the Burgess Queen Stakes on Melbourne Cup day, atoning for her luckless defeat first up. The step up to the mile third up here, along with the wet track, shouldn’t pose a problem and from barrier 3 with Chris Parnham booked to ride, she is quite clearly the horse to beat. The value looks to be (8) Solaia who was well backed in the Burgess Queen but beaten 3L into 4th. I think the sit-sprint run she had to produce wasn’t ideal, nor was being on the inside section of the track. She isn’t without a chance of bouncing back at $8.50.
