It was a tough week for Champions League betting tips last week and we will be looking to bounce back in a big way as Wednesday and Thursday morning host Matchday 3 in the UCL. We take a look at some of the key matchups of the week and give our betting tips below.
Champions League Matchday 3 Betting Tips
Real Madrid vs Inter Milan
Wednesday 7am (AEDT)
Group B is one of the more intriguing groups in the Champions League at the moment. Through four total games, there has only been one result, with the other three games all ending in draws. Shakhtar Donetsk sit atop the group but it is really wide open for the taking with Monchengladbach, Inter Milan and Real Madrid all within striking distance.
Real Madrid are 0-1-1 through their opening two Champions League games and will be thankful to be back at home for this tough clash against Italian side Inter Milan. Madrid have been strong in the La Liga so far, racking up a 5-1-1 record to sit in second place on the table, so their form slump in the Champions League is a bit strange. They are coming off a comfortable 4-1 win against Huesca in the domestic competition on the weekend and beat Barcelona 3-1 the week before, so we trust their form at the moment.
Inter have been so-so in the Serie A so far. They have a 3-2-1 record through their opening six games and sit in 6th place on the table. They had just two wins in the month of October in all competitions. Real have the form and should put their stamp on Group B here.
Atalanta vs Liverpool
Wednesday 7am (AEDT)
Liverpool will travel to Italy this week to take on Atalanta, who is shaping up to be their main threats in Group D after two games. Liverpool top the group with six points through the opening two games, but the Italian side are hot on their heels with four points after one win and one draw.
Liverpool is still without doubt one of the strongest teams in the world, and have started the EPL season in hot form with a 5-1-1 record, topping the table through seven games. They have plundered 17 goals in those seven games, the 2nd most in the league, however, they have also allowed 15, which is the most in the EPL.
While they have been in superb form in terms of wins and losses, Liverpool have kept just four clean sheets in their last 14 games across all competitions, way down on what you’d come to expect of a team as dominant as this. We think Liverpool win here but there should be some goals from either side.
RB Leipzig vs Paris Saint-Germain
Thursday 7am (AEDT)
One of these two teams’ fates in the Champions League could be in jeopardy after this clash. Manchester United sit atop Group H with a perfect record through two games. PSG and RB Leipzig sit tied in second place with one win and one loss each. Paris Saint-Germain have been superb in the French Domestic competition this season, sitting atop the table so far with a 7-0-2 record. Their only loss in the month of October in all competitions came at the hands of Manchester United.
RB Leipzig have been just as strong in their domestic competition, racking up a 4-1-1 record through six games. They are, however, coming off a 5-0 drubbing at the hands of Manchester United in the Champions League last week, followed up by a 1-0 loss to Monchengladbach in the Bundesliga on the weekend. The loss to Manchester United was their first in any competition since June.
Tough game to call. PSG come in with better form but Leipzig have the home field advantage, where they have been incredibly strong throughout the season. Hard to look past the French giant though. Back them to hand Leipzig their third straight loss.
