Welcome to our horse racing preview and betting tips for racing on Tuesday, October 13th.
There's five meetings scheduled to take place in Australia on Tuesday, with two of those being at Kyneton and Newcastle. The Horse has previewed both meetings with his best bets highlighted below!
Horse Racing Tips: Tuesday, October 13th
Looks like it will be a wet track—so making selections at Kyneton based on previous experience on Soft to Heavy. This looks to be a nice race for the Michael Moroney trained Tavistock mare (3) Opoho Dreaming. She drops back significantly from a BM70 to this BM58 so theoretically should have a class edge on the field. She has raced three times on the Heavy with a win and a place. Distance range is suited to her also. The question will be the wide gate, but she has enough pace to get into a good spot—and there’s a chance with scratchings she will be brought closer in anyway. The price will soon be taken so I expect the current offer is overs compared to what we’ll get at jump. (4) One for Rocky and (5) Cyclone Tim will both be in the market and have met previously with Rocky getting the upper hand. At the value offered he looks the better bet between the two—but neither are ahead of Opoho Dreaming.
One of the better bets on the card is (5) Deploys Alone who drops back from three previous BM64 races into this BM58 graded race. The last three runs he has placed 2nd, 2nd & 4th. He is deserving of another win and looks well-placed here against a few horses coming up in grade while equally weighted. Craig Newitt gets the steer and is likely to take luck out of the equation. I am not too fazed by the wide gate considering he has the speed to overcome the draw—and sitting on the outside might prove a luxury. Add to that his solid wet-track form—being in the money five of eight starts on Heavy. (3) Gorokan Express could be the danger also proven in the wet conditions. Similar to the previous race the odds are likely to shorten if anything—but if proven wrong The Horse is ready to take the drift too.
Newcastle Race 6 (Market)
Pretty keen to take on the favourite here (3) Kutayha who has gone close a few times now in chasing the maiden victory. The Waller trained Savabeel gelding is pretty unlucky not to have won in Echuca last preparation however its (10) Zachariah trained by Gary Portelli and ridden by Rachel King that peaks my interest. Everything King touches at the moment turns to gold and she gets another well-weighted ride here. At around $9.00 in opening there has been some early money—which gives me a little more confidence. He won two lead-up trials over short distances before coming sixth behind Private Cheetah at Randwick. That day he ran close behind the leaders at a fast gallop before fading towards the end. He would have taken some fitness and improvement from that run and now finds, what appears to be, an easier race. At $6.00 he is still a good each-way play.
Newcastle Race 7 (Market)
(1) Zell has been racing with some consistency and is understandably well found in the market. There is no reason why he cannot win again if he can get a good lead run with Christian Reith onboard. He lugs the big weight—however the draw might be enough to offset it. You would think a few runners will try to take him on simply to prevent him from getting a soft lead. He does step up 100 metres from his last win which could also prove an issue. In the event they burn him at the start, there are a couple here at nice prices also with (9) Super dropping down in weight (and getting a claim) but stepping up in class. While the races he has previously competed in were lower grade, he did come up against the likes of Wickmo and Mounga. Pretty keen to have something on him too. (7) Campari Soda is going for a third successive victory (winning form) albeit against tougher competition. While (3) Absolute Trust could also prove the fly in the ointment. Should be a good race!
