Mornington will host eight midweek races on Wednesday with the first race commencing at 1:05pm.
On what is just a modest card, there are still winners to be found and we have picked out our four best bets of the day below. Gallopers will be racing on a Good surface.

Mornington Racing Tips: Wednesday 28th December
Race 5
(8) Running on Time for the Maher & Eustace stable will have its admirers in the first leg of the quaddie. On debut and after settling slightly better than midfield, Running on Time saluted for favourite backers and the step up from 1200m to 1500m doesn't look like it will be an issue. The three-year-old filly has the inside barrier for this race and I think Harry Coffey may look to follow the leader, sitting third on the inside.
(3) Coaxial usually settles midfield in his races and rarely gets beaten far. He has fitness on his side and this may be his last run before a spell.
(5) Aminikii gets back in his races and at Mornington it can be hard to make ground at times. Definite place claims.
(4) Commodus is having his fifth run off a very long spell and gets Teo Nugent on for the first time. He has had seven goes at the distance for no wins and is probably just a place chance.
(8) Running on Time
$3.10 (2 Units)
Race 6
(2) Badiss is second up from a spell and did win second up last prep. He ran a good 3rd at Sandown Lakeside last time when going around at big odds but we won't be seeing those odds here. He is slightly down in class and will settle around midfield. Ethan Brown takes the ride and he has won on the horse before.
(1) Bass was poor in his first run back from a spell but was a lot better last time when 5th at Sandown Lakeside. He is back up to 2000m which will suit as the 1800m did look a bit short.
(6) State Squad is second up from a spell and when second up last time, he only lost by a nose. He has run 2nd over a similar distance before.
(7) The Kings Gospel gets back a bit but did win well at Moe last start.
(2) Badiss
$3.50 (2 Units)
Race 7
(5) Discerning drops in class a little and im going on her win two starts ago at Bendigo where she sat on pace throughout. Michael Poy was on top that day and sticks with her and I think at Mornington, which can be leader biased at times, might suit this horse's racing pattern. She has won twice from six attempts on the Good surface.
(4) Only Need Time gets Jamie Kah on and she is a previous Mornington winner. She has only won 10 percent of her races though which is the issue.
(3) San Telmos Fire is down in class and has been starting favourite of late. She should place but I worry she may get buried away on the inside throughout the run.
(2) Jillete is running poorly but she has run well against better opposition before. She likes dry tracks but a 3rd or 4th placing may be best.
(5) Discerning
$3 (2 Units)
Race 8
(9) Kaido for Clinton McDonald has proven he can win second up and is second up again today. Resuming from a spell he was 6th behind Vermintino but I think that horse is quite fast so it probably wasn't a bad effort. He stays at 1200m but he has won over that distance before. Ben Melham takes the ride for the first time and despite leading in all starts last prep, he settled back when resuming so Melham has a decision to make.
(10) Excel and Fly was good at Werribee when he resumed (3rd beaten a nose) and could improve sharply.
(12) One Reason will settle midfield and will likely improve after a poor Sandown Lakeside run last start. Daniel Moor takes the ride for the first time.
(7) Rossman is experienced and is another who goes well second up. He likes dry tracks and a top three finish wont surprise.
(9) Kaido
$2.80 (2 Units)
