Moonee Valley Racing Tips - Saturday, December 31st 2022
Race 2
(8) Vermentino will start short but is clearly the one to beat after winning his first three starts in fine fashion. Last start he took control early on at Ladbrokes Park (Lakeside) making it two wins over this distance. He likes firm tracks and the Maher & Eustace stable do have a high opinion of him.
(9) Dance To Dubai should get a nice sit from barrier one and he will now only carry 52kg with Carleen Hefel taking the claim.
(7) Sandy Prince is first up here and has run three seconds when first up previously. He has been in the money 10 of 13 starts so is showing a lot of consistency.
(6) Exeter has won three of seven starts at The Valley and did find the line strongly last time. Was no match for Vermentino last time but if the pace is hot, he can run on into placing.
(8) Vermentino
$1.60 (4 units)
Race 6
(3) Morrissy was specked at odds last start but was just fair when 6th at Flemington. Before that he had no luck at Ladbrokes Park Hillside behind Savannah Cloud who has since won again. She is experienced and has raced in better races than this before and she has placed three times at The Valley. Each-way.
(6) Riot and Rose is the likely favourite from the Moody camp and he finished one placing in front of Morrissy in her latest run. He is fitter now and is a big chance.
(4) Munhamek likes Good tracks and might get a cozy run from the inside barrier. He has been freshened for this and does race well when first up from a spell or freshen up.
(8) Beltoro hasn't won in his last 10 runs but hasn't disgraced either. Definitely a place chance in this.
(3) Morrissy
$9.50/$2.80 (1 unit e/w)
Race 7
(14) River Noire was well supported last start but got a little lost down the Flemington straight. She is third up now and fully fit but Dan Stackhouse does have a wide barrier to contend with in 13. She clearly has improvement and would be shorter in the market if she had a better barrier.
(2) Ice Pick Nick is better suited to a dry track and is slightly down in class on his latest three runs where he competed against some handy ones including Cardinal Gem, All About Eve and Jimmy The Bear.
(9) In Due Time saw The Valley for the first time a few weeks ago when 4th and handled it quite well and will be better for that run.
(11) Gunna Gunna will find this race easier after racing against Vermentino last start and has a nice barrier in two.
(14) River Noire
$3.50 (2 units)
Race 9
(5) Starlight Scope goes good second up and should run well after getting a bit too far back last start when 3rd at Ladbrokes Park Hillside.
She likes Good rated tracks but has been around The Valley yet in race conditions. From barrier one she should be able to settle closer in this race and be right there at the end.
(4) Throntari is better than most of these but has only won one race in her last 10 starts. She gets back a bit and will need luck.
(3) Extreme Step is fitter now and has won here before. That was last start and Michael Dee raced her on that occasion and sticks with her.
(9) Dazzling Lucy has a wide barrier in 15 but with luck and be right in the mix. She almost got there at Flemington last time when beaten a head.
(5) Starlight Scope
$10.00 (0.5 units e/w)
