Moonee Valley Racing Tips: Saturday, December 23rd 2023
Race 1: Summer Membership On Sale Handicap - 12:15pm (AEDT)
(3) Dark Halo led at Wyong when having its first starts and on a track which can be leader biased at times, the colt gets another chance to try similar tactics here. He tried his luck in the Gothic Stakes at Caulfield last start and ran 7th but this race is easier. Barrier 2 looks good and McMonagle gets another ride for the leading Maher & Eustace stable.
(4) Links is the stablemate and from barrier 4 might come over and sit on Dark Halos outside. It's her first try on a Good track after 3 career starts.
(1) Gitalong goes up 1.5kg after winning well at Warwick Farm last start. He will go forward too and may get trapped wide early.
(3) Dark Halo
$2.00 (3 Units)
Race 5: PJA Accountants & Business Advisors Handicap - 2:30pm (AEDT)
*Scratched* (4) Port Albert gets another chance here after going down (4th) at Morphettville last start. It was a plain run really but his form before that was solid for the in-form Ryan team. He has a good record at the track and his form over the distance is very consistent. From barrier 4 he should position up nicely in the run around 4th.
(3) Epic Centre is consistent and hasn’t been further back than 3rd place in his last 5 races. He is first up and is the likely leader.
(6) Philosopher has the inside alley for Josufovic who is training well at the moment. He has won 3 times over this distance and will likely sit 3rd behind the leader.
(7) Howl has drawn a bit wide in 9 but will get back anyway and will be running on at the end.
Race 6: Complete Opening Pty Ltd Solutions Handicap - 3:05pm (AEDT)
(8) Yellow Sam has had a short spell and from barrier 1 should go well here. She was 3rd last start at Caulfield after settling 3rd and this race is no stronger. She has never missed a drum on Good ground and she goes exceptional after having little breaks in racing.
(6) South of Houston led all of the way for Gaudray at Lakeside last start when 2nd fav and the pair might try the same tactics again. She remains at the 1200m where she is 2 from 2.
(7) Prairie Flower can be slowly away in her races but does go well on Dry ground. She was 8th on the home turn and ran into 2nd at Ballarat last start.
(8) Yellow Sam
$4.20 (3 Units)
Race 7: Mitty’s Handicap - 3:40pm (AEDT)
(2) Kettle Hill was poor last start at Ballarat but that was on a totally different track to what he gets here. That day the track was a bog and Kettle Hill goes better on Dry ground. He will settle back again which is his usual style and he will get the last crack at them for McMonagle who rides him for the second time. He hasn’t won in 2 years but he may send us home with some cash for the Christmas Turkey if he gets up here.
(3) Samedi has drawn inside and gets Damien Lane on for the first time which is a tick. He has placed well over this distance previously.
(1) Matron Bullwinkel gets an easier race here but does have to carry an extra 2.5kg. She will likely get back and make her run with the stablemate Kettle Hill.
(5) Flying Basil will be big odds but has won 10 from 35 and if he can lead and slow them up, he can place at odds.
(2) Kettle Hill
$5.00 (3 Units)
