Friday Night racing is back at The Valley and we have a cracking meeting to begin a huge weekend of racing. The feature event on the card is the Group 1 Moir Stakes which will see some exciting sprinters go head to head.
Billy Bestford has done the form and brings you his best bets on the card, including his preview for the feature race of the night.
Moonee Valley Betting Tips: Friday 24th September
Race 1
It was some sort of win from (5) Draft Day on debut, sitting three wide no cover and did plenty wrong but still managed to win. The trials leading into that were very good and he looks a smart 3yo for the Corstens. Third and fourth from that race have come out and won and Oli sticks for the ride. Hopefully he can find some cover today or position up nicely just off the speed and with luck in running I think he’ll be winning again.
Race 6
Pretty keen to be with (3) Defibrillate who just sets up so well here tonight. He was very good last start over a trip probably short of his best, finishing less than a length from Floating Artist who looks above average. He’s now ready to peak 3rd up where he’s unbeaten from two starts while he gets out to his favoured trip, with three wins from four starts. He’s won around the Valley before so should be no issues and he maps for a great run in transit.
Race 7 - Moir Stakes
It’s another quality field for the Group 1 Moir Stakes and we’ve got plenty of interesting and exciting runners to line up.
(11) Profiteer is the early market favourite and should find the front without too much issue. There’s not too much speed engaged here (especially for a Moir) and you’d expect Mcneil to go straight to the front with the lightweight and barrier 2. He’s speedy and SP profile is very strong for this, starting favourite in the Todman and Golden Slipper to round out his 2yo season. Think he will take some catching.
(2) Wild Ruler is the 2nd pick for me and brings a handy first up performance behind Nature Strip into this. He wasn’t disgraced there and this is arguably a step down in the sprinting ranks. Usually brings his best form with a run under the belt and I think he will take a heap of improvement into this race.
(3) The Inferno could be anything really. His record is ridiculous with 9 wins from 11 starts and looks to have found his feet 2nd up in Australia with a dominant win in the Mcewen. He obviously handles the Valley well and just knows how to found the line.
(5) September Run did everything you could want to see from her when savaging the line fresh. Would probably prefer her at 1200m now but she goes well 2nd up and looks to have come back in good order. Goes well here at The Valley and will be the one storming late if the gaps appear.
Backing Profiteer as the main bet but will be making sure we don’t lose on Wild Ruler.
Value: (2) Wild Ruler ($7.50)
