The night racing series is back on at Moonee Valley this Friday September 23rd, and to start off the season we have a pretty solid card to kick things off.
It's certainly not as strong as the bumper Moir Stakes Group 1 card that will kick off AFL Grand Final weekend next Friday at Moonee Valley but that won't stop us finding the value runners in all of the races tonight.
The track is currently rated a Good 4 with the Rail out 5m for tonight's racing. It should play relatively fair with an advantage to those horses on and around the pace. The first three or four lanes off the fence in the straight likely to produce most of the winners.
Moonee Valley Racing Tips
Race 1
#3 Lord and Master - suited up in distance here in weak race where it's hard to like most of the others!
Race 2
#4 Grand Dreamer - 1600m specialist who rarely runs poorly in this grade. Safe bet but $3 will be a fair price.
Race 3
#2 Daniela Rosa - Will make her own luck around speed and better value than the favourites for that very reason.
Race 4
#9 Make Mine Brandy - Maps well and racing in super form. Just needs even luck in straight.
Race 5
#8 Ability - Smart type who looks suited to Moonee Valley and maps well in a tricky race. Nordic Empire main danger and the quinella is in play.
Race 6
#1 Happy Event EW - Had support fresh and 2nd up record super. Not the best Melbourne race and her Brisbane form is solid.
Race 7
#12 Resort - Looks progressive, should go forward and settle handy. They've booked the right jockey.
Race 8
#3 Lake Como - Loves 1200m and maps very well tonight. Looks over the odds.
Best Bet - Race 3: #2 Daniela Rosa
We expect that on the rails or slightly off might be the best ground tonight and she will push forward and be very hard to catch for those horses who will be circling out wide. Her best from this prep rates to win this and we think she can go close to finding it again tonight. Anything above $5 looks a good price.
Best Roughie - Race 6: #1 Happy Event
This horse had some important market support when fresh in a good race at Flemington. She ran pretty well that day and has terrific stats second-up so far in her career. We get the feeling her best Brisbane form can measure up against this group of C and B grade Melbourne mares. Worth an each-way ticket for sure!
