Moonee Valley will host a nine-race program on Friday night with what is the entree for a big Super Saturday’s Racing in the state. The first race starts at 5:15pm (AEDT), with the last concluding at 9:15pm (AEDT) Runners will be racing on a Good track, and our three best plays of the night are below!
Moonee Valley Racing Tips: Friday, March 8th 2024
Race 2: Inglis Digital Sale 8-13 March Handicap - 5:45pm (AEDT)
(4) Isthmus is very well bred and was always in control when winning first up at Werribee on February 18. Currie was on that day and he will steer again after getting a winner midweek so he is in fine form on top. Before that was an impressive trial run at Balnarring with both of those runs on the Dry. From barrier 3 he should get a nice run on pace, either leading or sitting behind the leader. The stable is in fine form (Anthony & Sam Freedman) and this could start of their weekend well.
(13) Vividness is resuming and has drawn wide in 10 which may be an issue but does go well fresh. The Cummings/Melham combination is quality and the filly did win a Flemington jumpout a fortnight ago.
(1) Links will likely get back from barrier 11 but has shown that he can run on late. He was 2nd at Lakeside a fortnight ago after hitting the line strong.
(4) Isthmus
$2.60 (3 Units)
Race 4: Ladbrokes 55 Second Challenge - 6:45pm (AEDT)
(6) Scuderia has won 3 from 5 starts over this distance and has placed on two other occasions. He has a good relationship with Bates who is on top and the Good track is ideal. Last time he was just collared on the line after settling on speed and the same tactics will be used again from barrier 5 I suggest. He drops 2.5kgs for this which will aid his chances late.
(5) Shirshov likes The Valley and has drawn well in 4. Last start he was 2nd behind Philosopher but he does lose 3kg for this.
(2) Philosopher goes up 1 kg after winning here a fortnight ago. Gaudray is on again after winning last time and from barrier 2 you would think she will try and lead.
(6) Scuderia
$3.20 (2 Units)
Race 7: Pepsi Max Handicap - 8:15pm (AEDT)
(1) Girl can make it two in a row here after winning by 2.5L at Ballarat on February 14. She has been freshened since. She was wide at Ballarat so that win was even better than it looks and with Shinn on top, I can see her settling in 2nd or 3rd before getting the late run. The distance suits and she did beat some quality types in recent Flemington jumpouts. She does have to carry 60kg which is the only real concern.
(3) Catahoula will start favourite and deserves to be after winning here last time out. She goes up in class and will likely settle midfield. Does go up 15kg in weight.
(5) Matriarch Rose is resuming and she will be one of the best late. First up form is good but others will be fitter. Might be better in a few weeks when she gets out to 1400m I reckon.
