The Valley will host night racing action on Friday night with eight races on the program with gallopers running on a Good 3 or 4 surface after a warm couple of days in Melbourne.
Race one will get us underway at 6:15pm and the maidens will get proceedings underway over the 1200m distance.
Brendan Bunworth has chosen his best Moonee Valley racing tips of the night for punters to consider. And if you're looking to bet this Saturday, then why not give Neds a try?
Moonee Valley Racing Tips: Friday, February 24th
Race 2
(3) Defining for the McEvoy team and Jamie Kah looks to be a good bet in the second after a luckless 7th at Ladbrokes Park Hillside last start. At the Lakeside circuit before that the Not a Single Doubt mare was 5th but ran very well beaten less than a length. Despite having not won in 10 months, she has run a 2nd in a Listed race previously so she is more than capable in this class.
(4) Waitapu has drawn the inside and he plugged away quite well behind a smart one (Edith) last week. Blake Shinn stays on and he has won and run a 2nd on dry ground before.
(7) Field The Moment will settle on pace and should get a good run in transit for Zac Spain. She was 2nd here 2 starts back and should benefit from seeing The Valley for a second time.
(1) Piaggio won by half a length last start and he has to be included on that effort.
(3) Defining WIN
$3.20 (2 Units)
Race 4
(1) Foxicon has drawn well in barrier 2 for the Moody stable and is sure to have plenty of big bets placed on her. Jamie Kah saluted for punters last start at a touch under even money and it may be a similar story this time. She had barrier 1 last time and settled 5th the fence so I anticipate that she will settle in a similar position here. She has won 2 from 3 at the trip now and is obviously a huge chance.
(2) Petulant is the main danger from the Hawkes team after a fair effort at Warwick Farm last time (5th). Petulant may settle just ahead of Foxicon and may try to block it in.
(3) Fairy Magic comes over from Tasmania and is one of the fittest horses in the race.
(8) Berry Bubbly has a 1st and 2nd to her name here which is an advantage. Carleen Hefel is in form and takes the ride.
(1) Foxicon WIN
$2.10 (3 Units)
Race 6
(13) Rebel Racer is an emergency from the Yargi team but is good enough to win this if gains a start. He likes The Valley and his 2nd here last time was full of merit after leading. From barrier 12 they might try the same tactics here over the 3000m. It has been a year and a half since his last win but he is consistent running several placings since.
(11) Jumpin’ Jaguar was 2nd behind Sunday Buzz and has been in the money the last 5 starts. She normally settles in the middle and barrier 8 holds no issues.
(9) Zegalo is on the quick back up but did place well at The Valley last time.
(8) Sunday Buzz beat most of these last start so has to go in. Kah stays on but he may have his rivals keeping a closer eye on him this time.
(10) Vividredsky will start huge odds and deservedly so but his trainer does know how to train a stayer.
(13) Rebel Racer WIN
$7 (1 Unit)
Race 7
*SCRATCHED* (1) Bold Bourbon has drawn awkwardly in 14 but does tick a lot of boxes. At this track on January 28, he finished 3rd after leading and was beaten less than a length. From 14 he will likely come over but will try and slow them down midrace. Beau Mertens takes the ride for Lindsay Smith and the toppy does like Good tracks.
(5) Kailash has also drawn poorly in 13 but this race is easier than some of his latest races.
(6) Acquicent has drawn well in 5 and will settle on speed also. He saw the track for the first time last start and ran well (4th) Should place for Johnny Allen who rides for the leading Maher & Eustace stable.
(11) Niki Frisk was an easy Stony Creek winner last time and will be value at around the 20-1 mark. I doubt he can win but I would consider a place bet on him.
