Racing under lights at Moonee Valley will once again take centre stage on an action-packed Friday night that is set to kick-off with the first jump out starting at 6:45pm (AEDT). As it stands with the weather, the track is rated a Good 4, with the expectation it’ll stay around that mark.
We have Trent Callen jumping into the saddle for his debut BYB run as he brings us his best bets on the Moonee Valley program across the seven-race card. Check out his racing tips below!
Moonee Valley Racing Tips: Friday, December 15th 2023
Race 2: Cirka Events Team – 7:15pm (AEDT)
(4) Sunday Buzz returns to the Valley after a lengthy hiatus, a clear top pick for mine, already specked in the market, I’d like to think it’ll continue to trim up prior to the jump and run out the 3000m trip strongly thereafter.
(6) After the Impact is one I’m also leaning towards at the double figure price, Alana Kelly takes the sit hoping to make it three on the trot after two dominant displays at both Swan Hill and Ballarat, ready for the sharp rise in grade.
(3) Dunwoody is another that may be worthy of a small play at odds, may prefer the sting out of the ground but more than capable of running out the trip as it did at Sandown in April to record its maiden.
(2) Fearentless will need some luck from the outside alley but will enjoy a nice cart across from the long shot Keevs who is expected to lead it’s rivals up. Can figure.
(4) Sunday Buzz
$5.50 (1 unit)
Race 3: Pja Accountants & Business Advisors – 7:45pm (AEDT)
(5) Balinor was sent out at long odds last start only to be pipped by half a length at Cranbourne, will appreciate the firmer track and can look to go one better, with its current price likely to be snapped up quick smart.
(2) Duhlata remains soft in the market but keen to have a throw at the stumps due to the fact it’ll sit a lot closer in transit from the cherry than it did in the Mortlake Cup. Happy to risk at an each-way price tag.
(4) Dictionary is better suited to the longer journeys, a horse with true staying power. The 4yo Gelding has saluted in 2 out of its last 3 races and can produce another eye-catching run donning the fluro green silks.
(7) Iffycould could win. The Warrnambool bred Gelding has the safe hands of Jordan Childs as the pilot who’ll try weave a way through the field as a backmarker, may depend on how the race is run tempo wise.
(2) Duhlata E/W
$8.50/$2.50 (0.5u e/w)
Race 4: Ladbrokes 55 Second Challenge Heat 9 – 8:15pm (AEDT)
(5) Scuderia ticks all the boxes in the lead-up to this race, a known performer at this track and distance. Expect Declan Bates to sit on the outside of a fast pace and push the button on the turn, will take a power of beating.
(4) Kev’s Girl will be contesting the early lead to the first turn. Has shown to be a progressive type, rising through the grades and a win here would not shock in the slightest.
(8) Epic Proportion straps up on the second line of betting as one who can throw down a strong challenge to the favourite. Trial form reads well and will only need to take small improvement from that here.
(2) Qeyaddy ran through the line well first-up, comes into this fitter/stronger and ready to give it a shake with the 1.5kg claim handed to apprentice jockey Ben Price.
(5) Scuderia
$3.00 (2 units)
Race 6: Cirka Retail Team – 9:15pm (AEDT)
(1) Crackhorn comes into the penultimate carrying the top weight with 62kg on its back as a result of being the highest rated in the 9-horse field. Encouraged by the healthy odds on offer and a low gate.
(7) New Hampshire draws the inside alley which is always a fancied here at the Valley. Expect her to roll forward and try make every post a winner. Query on her late, but is fitter second up and can continue her winning form.
(4) Signal without a doubt is the form horse in the race. Question marks up in class, but the ability is there to keep working through the grades. Ceiling? How high?
(3) Lang Park holds the market expectation jumping from the 1200m as the favourite. Slots in as my fourth chance but will need to make amends on a poor first-up record, resuming after 12 weeks.
(1) Crackhorn
$6.00 (1 unit)
