International Friendlies - Women's Soccer Betting Tips
Matildas vs Chinese Taipei
Wednesday 8:00pm AEDT, December 4th 2024, AAMI Park (Melbourne)
The Matildas have had the opportunity to play in front of friends and family in recent weeks although results haven’t gone to plan. They played a pair of games against 8th ranked nation Brazil last week and came up short on both occasions. Their first meeting was a 3-1 loss at Suncorp Stadium in Brisbane, while their most recent defeat was 2-1 at Cbus Super Stadium on the Gold Coast.
On the back of recent defeats and an overall struggle with form, Australia has now fallen to #15 in the world rankings after spending a bunch of time in the top 10 earlier in the year. They’ve won only two of their past eight games across all formats which is a stark contrast to their form in the 12 months prior.
Meanwhile, Chinese Taipei will take a big step up in class on Wednesday night after playing a bunch of friendlies against low ranked teams in recent times. Their most recent result was a 3-1 win at home against Jordan who are ranked #74 by FIFA’s formula. Chinese Taipei are currently sitting 41 in the rankings, and their highest ever rank is 22 which came way back in October 2003.
Match Prediction: These two nations are in totally different classes and for that reason the betting opened with the Matildas priced as $1.01 favourites in the head-to-head market. They’ve ‘blown out’ to $1.04 at the time of writing, probably due to some sub-par performances over the past fortnight.
Regardless, the Matildas have a huge edge in this matchup and with home ground advantage also at play, this should be a very straightforward win. These nations have met three times over the past 12 years and the Matildas have won all three while scoring 17 goals compared to Chinese Taipei’s 0. I expect another dominant win here.
Australia -3
